Closed.

Yeah...I'm devastated too.

Is it too much to ask that The BOKA Group opens another “so hot you can’t get in” place here?

Achatz? Are you aware of this great location?

Six steps from being under the EL?

Across from that weird Euro-sausage place?

You could pick-up the pizza eaters who don’t want to wait two hours for Malnati's

HELP!?

Not surprised about Trader Vic's....we only went to the new one a couple of times (and we are HUGE fans of Vic's all over the country).....this location just did not have the old school character (see Atlanta's version for the good old template)....this one just too big and sleek....great old bartenders replaced, mai tais not as strong....too bad

I've been wondering for some time what might be going into the building on the southeast corner of Chicago and Davis in Evanston. They've been working on the interior and exterior for quite a while, including sandblasting the building down to the original brick (it was painted white for years). Lately, there's been a "cook wanted" sign in the windows.
Turns out it's just the new home for Giordano's, which is relocating there from its present site a block away at 500 Davis (southwest corner of Hinman). The move should take place by late August.

Although we haven't gone here in maybe 5 or 6 years, I am sorry to hear this and hope they work something out for a new location.

To those here who are devotees of Deta's in West Rogers Park, this is her new neighbor. I'll try to do a scout trip soon, as it's just around the corner from me. From Alderman Joe Moore:

Welcome the 49th Ward's Newest Green Business
Dear Neighbor:

Please join me and the Rogers Park Business Alliance as we cut the ribbon on the 49th Ward's newest green business: Green Spirit. Located at 7551 N. Ridge (just south of Howard), Green Spirit specializes in healthy living through delicious, nutrient dense raw foods. A variety of fun and informative classes in raw food preparation are offered, as well as weekly packages of prepared gourmet meals to help supplement a healthy lifestyle.

The Grand Opening Reception for Green Spirit takes place this Thursday, July 14th, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at their store location, 7551 N. Ridge. The ribbon will be cut at 7:00 p.m.

A 49th Ward resident for the last seven years, Green Spirit founder and chef, Linda Szarkowski , was delighted to find a perfect location for her business so close to home. Green Spirit is a favorite at the Glenwood Sunday Market where Linda sells her positively addicting kale chips and other raw snacks.

Linda is a graduate of the internationally-renowned Living Light Culinary Institute where she received certifications in the Benefits of Raw Food Nutrition, Chef and Instructor. In addition, she holds certifications from Alissa Cohen's Living on Live Food Program and The Un-cooking School.

Linda was formerly a chef at the award-winning Chicago Diner and also at Beets Living Foods Cafe in Austin, Texas. She has been teaching her raw food classes in Chicago for the past 3 years, and has been a guest instructor at Cousins Raw Gourmet International. This year marked her third appearance as a guest chef at the Taste of Chicago.

Linda has a passion for healthy living and loves sharing her knowledge. She is available for lectures and private classes.

Please stop by on Thursday and join me in supporting Linda's new business!

Sincerely,

Joe Moore

They've been working on a store front at 2200 N. Milwaukee for a month or so now and just recently put up a permit that says they're building a "Gourmet Hot Dog Stand". Anyone have any idea what this could be? I'm trying to catch the construction workers to ask, but no luck yet.

Now open, Sideline Grill at 4460 W. Belmont Ave. Chicago IL 60641.

In addition to the usual hot dogs and fries, they have some unusual fries (yucca, sweet potato) and some other stuff (sliders, etc). I haven't tried anything on the menu, except the Italian Ice. I treated my daughter to an ice today, after she had a long, hot day at camp. Today's flavor was mango-pineapple-- fresh and homemade, clearly with real fruit (there were a few chunks of mango and pineapple, although the base texture was very smooth, not icy). It was really good-- my daughter said I had to get my own next time, no way was she sharing.

The old Enissa's space at Lincoln and Leland has a building permit in the window for a new restaurant. Windows are papered over and I saw no sign of workers.

Caravan Restaurant & Lounge - Uptown is getting a new restaurant and entertainment lounge. Next to The Green Mill in space formerly occupied by the Wild Pug. Due to open in July - accepting applications for employees today, 7/14. Was previously going to be called Cairo Caravan but appears they've dropped the Cairo.

Oberweis will be opening a new ice-cream parlor on the corner Dempster and Niles Center roads in Skokie, as part of the extensive rebuilding of the Dempster retail strip in proximity to the Skokie Swift El stop. Construction hasn't started yet, though, so it will be a while.

I tried my best to search LTH and the web and make sure this wasn't already posted --

Ginger's Ale House on Ashland and Grace is papered over. I'm not sure if they're closing, changing names or just renovating. I was a bit surprised to see this, as I thought it was a popular spot for soccer--er, football--fans.

Word in the neighborhood is that the group that owns The Globe Pub bought it and is fixing it up. Ginger's has had its ups and downs over the years but had gotten especially rough around the edges lately. The Globe guys will do a good job with it, I'd think.

I'm guessing that means they weren't able to find a better spot in Evanston.... :(

A branch of Jaffa Bakery has opened in the O'Hare Tollway Oasis on 294. The good news is that there is now someting ethnic you can get while cruising the Tollway. The bad news is that the carved from the bone turkey, which is a staple in their downtown locations, is not ofered at this branch. Instead, they have schwarama carved from a decent looking trompo. They also have fresh, squeezed-to-order juices.

Image

In an interesting "East Bank Story" like twist, they offer lox and bagels for breakfast.

That fan base explains the very rough and kind of scary-looking out-and-out fistfight I saw going on outside that bar as I was driving by a while ago. I called 911.

How does an establishment keep 500 bottled beers in cold/fresh/drinkable condition? Pretty ambitious.
