Have you had the Golden Ale before?

I have not, I typically stick with Spotted Cow, but am interested in trying other NG varieties for sure.

I've enjoyed both Moon Man and Totally Naked. I know we have at least a six-pack of each in our basement stash. What's the Laughing Fox like? I haven't seen that one yet.

That should be an interesting experience for you then. It's quite different from the rest of the NG beers you have pictured. Let us know what you think of it when you try it, I'll be curious to hear if you like it or not.

Love the Moon Man. Nice grapefruit aroma, pleasantly bitter/dry finish.

I bet, figured I had to get a bottle, plus it had my birthdate as the brew date. Hopefully share some this weekend.

Laughing Fox is another wheat. They had it at the Great Taste and said they were just starting to bottle it and it would be available in a couple weeks (which would mean it became available last week). I had it fairly late in the day so I can't provide too many details, but I do remember it being enjoyable. I think it is on the low side, ABV-wise.

Too bad their stuff doesn't come in plastic bottles, to share at the picnic. (I'll have a couple of plastic-bottled homebrews with me ... it'll be interesting to see how they bottle-conditioned in plastic.)

I picked up a few 4 packs of the Cran-bic when I was up in Madison for the Great Taste. It's a nice beer. More of a fruit beer than lambic style. It has a nice tartness to it.

Just wanted to second that the Golden Ale is a lot more than just "golden"--I consumed two bottles on-site at my post-Great Taste visit this year, and brought a whole bunch home: no more one-bottle limit. That said, I think it's at or slightly past its prime--last summer, it held its own and even trumped Orval, but I'll have to do another side-by-side with this round.

As for Unplugged beers, I enjoyed the Imperial Weizen. The only beer I can compare it to in recent memory is Krunk Monk from Three Floyds. The latter had nice, popping flavors but was quite thick and sweet. Imperial Weizen is like a better attenuated version, though the alcohol is noticeable.

Agreed about Cran-bic, although it definitely has some lambic features. A mild intro to "barnyard" and "horseblanket" for those disinclined to wild fermentation. Good fruit character--NG has a magic touch with fruit--and a vast improvement over that other "cranberry lambic" and with (I thought) more lambic character than Lindeman's various fruited versions.

I'd also picked up some Abt this round. It was fairly good, but side-by-side with Dieu du Ciel's Rigor Mortis, it lost out by a bit. It was, however, somewhat cheaper than both the Dieu du Ciel and your average Belgian in that style.

All this goes to show that trips to the brewery itself involve spending way more money than anticipated

yikes, @ $8/bottle I wish I could have afforded more than just a couple bottles.

Heh, sorry to sound like a spendthrift--Great Taste was the only thing I've had like a vacation since the last Great Taste, so I budgeted accordingly. And it's right on par with Orval prices, since Golden Ale bottle's bigger. And Orval being one of my favorite beers, I couldn't pass it up. Last year, there was a one-bottle limit, and I savored that bottle immensely. A short while later, a friend of mine brought one back for me--"It was a funny-looking bottle, so I thought you'd like it"--and I thought that was it. Lo, I returned, saw the quantity remaining, and partook of the wealth. Half a dozen of those was roughly equivalent to one bottle of Bourbon County Rare, so compared to that, it's a bargain If you like the bottle you've got, I'd be happy to share. It'd be fun to do this, a couple different bottlings of Orval, and maybe aged Matilda and Saison Brett side by side. Slainte!

WOW! Looks like a real Wisconsin breakfast drink. might give Wicked Hop and Sobelman's a run for their money. That thing is making me thirsty right now.

One of my all-time favorites when I can find it in the city: Central City Brewing's Red Racer IPA. They're out of Canada, and it seems like they sell out quickly. The next batch can never get here soon enough.

Picked up some Rogue Dead Guy ale and Allagash White today, too. Making the carnitas from today's NY Times, which called for Allagash White (or similar).

If it ain't broke...Chinon Rosé René Couly.

I did try it and had some guests try it as well(all appreciated thge beer, but none loved it). Defintely a different beer. Alot of carbonation upfront on the tip of the tongue, almost like champagne. Back end taste was medicinal. Not something I would drink regularly, but something I could sample for sure.

I also had a bottle of the unplugged Imperial Weizen. Not bad, really hoppy.

Two Brothers, Heavy Handed, fresh hopped IPA

not as much hop as I would have expected, I really liked it last year
so I bought a case today maybe it was an off bottle?
