He had previously said that they were aiming for an end-of-November opening. I go by there every day and I can tell you that the sign is up and the dining room is looking close to ready. I'll update more when it warrants updates.

Their website is (or, will be) here, although they don't yet have a menu posted and it doesn't say anything about an opening date.

Earlier this month I made a reservation for 12/23 on Opentable. Currently, however, the restaurant is not accepting Opentable reservations. Weird.

Jam has reopened in Logan Square. (LTHForum thead)

I never visited their old location, but I can assert that last night's malted custard french toast melted in my mouth. The space is beautiful. Not large. Open diner-style kitchen. The service generally quite good, although a little slow getting the ice tea out, and the OJ was forgotten. Not bad for their first official night open.

I'm not a fan of cash-only businesses, and will visit less (and spend less while there) than if they took credit cards.

Jam
3057 W Logan Blvd
Chicago, IL 60647
Open 7A-9P, Cash only, BYOB.

Tell us a bit more about their iced tea service, please. Sweetener offered? Lemon? etc.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet. I was walking through the Gold Coast this morning and saw a "coming soon" sign for a new location of Epic Burger in the window at Pearson/Wabash.

Regular and raspberry. Both asserted to be freshly brewed. I had raspberry. Very tasty. Unsweetened. Usual sweeteners offered. No lemon. Refilled promptly.

I just got an e-mail from Wisma, the carry-out store that John des Rosiers opened kitty-corner from his Inovasi restaurant in Lake Bluff (and also in Libertyville), and it says they will soon be opening a store in downtown Chicago.

In the old Islas Marias location in Rogers Park, I spotted a new place: Den Den. The sign said Eritrean. I couldn't tell if it was open yet.

Den Den

Cool I only went to Asmera (?) once, and found the food very interesting (although I did feel like an interloper). I miss having that restaurant, just because it was fun to suggest Eritrean food to visitors.

Whats going on with Filo? The place that took over for filichia on the corner of Western and Augusta. They had a sign posted outside stating they were now open, but were closed at a time when they were suppose to be open.

Ohmigod ohmigod ohmigod - could my eggrolls be back?

According to the Nadig Snoozepaper:
Lin's Garden Restaurant, formerly of 6556 N. Milwaukee, is now Peking Express at 576 Devon Ave., Elk Grove Village. Same owner as former Lin's Garden.

Damned if I know what's happening at the Milwaukee site. Not long ago, I saw someone deliver a pizza there, despite the fact that there was a notice on the one glass door and the other door was a wood slab. Someone is working inside at a snail's pace.

I live nearby, and this happened all the time with Filichia. Do you know what the concept is behind Filo?

No, not really. It says open for brunch/dinner on weekends, not sure other hours. I think its going to try to do family meals. Sort of what Filichia tried to do.

The Uptown Pie Company is closing on 11/27/11. You can read the farewell letter here, and stop in to say goodbye on the 26th. If you have a LivingSocial coupon as I do, it's a good time to order your Thanksgiving pie.

I went today, and despite the website saying they were open again starting today through 11/27, the place was locked up tight; nothing in the case although two little lamps in the Uptown Pie side were on. The phone number on the door belongs to a residence, and the phone number on my Coupon is "temporarily disconnected." I wrote an email to them asking about placing an order on November 7th and have yet to receive an answer, nor has my request to be added to their Evite list been acknowledged. Maybe the truck is operating until the 27th, but I'd guess that the storefront is finito.

Music to my ears. :D

So my husband and I finally trekked over to Freddie's earlier in the week for my birthday. I forgot to take a takeout menu but the main menu is still the same as the restaurant is completely redone on the inside and looking even better than before (Although the walk window for carry outs is now gone which means you must walk inside for carry outs.) The menu board looks exactly the same as well as the prices. Pizza taste the same and as good as always. The fettucini alfredo was a little off and not as creamy as before but still tasted the same. I don't know why my husband ordered the rib tips which were decent but nothing special. The Italian ice is still exactly as it was before but right now there only seems to be lemon and strawberry available. All in all, it is so good to have a favorite back in action. :D Music to my ears indeed.

Oakton St in downtown Skokie is turning into a mini United Nations. Siunik will be opening at 4839 Oakton St around the end of December. Same owners as Siunik Armenian Grill on Chestnut Avenue near Waukegan Road in Glenview. http://skokie.suntimes.com/news/8726806 ... kokie.html

I think leek was making a funny. ;)

Shameless plug: The good-looking-ness of the new Jam is at least partly due to friends at Strand Design.

Pinch Spice Market is shooting for a mid/late December opening at 1913 N. Milwaukee Ave. I should have more info on it shortly.

Disclaimer: I'm friends with one of the partners, who is a great guy, and I'm really looking forward to it opening up.

Attrill,
This is so exciting! We were sad to see Avocado go, but glad when it looked the other day like someone was selecting new paint colors for the space. Will the Pinch Spice Market be exactly what it sounds (bulk spices by the pinch) or will it be food too?

Maybe--but why? Is it not as possible to care about iced tea as about any other aspect of a meal, if one really enjoys his iced tea?

(Not an iced tea drinker myself.)

Right now the plan is to just sell spices, accessories, charcuterie supplies, etc. There may be plans for food in the future.

It's a reference to an old discussion about Ria, I believe.

Right near me, but wow that website is terrible, annoying music and nearly unreadable. Off to a bad start!

A liquor license application sticker has gone up in the old Dairy Queen at 1649 N. Damen. The d/b/a for the new business is "Cesar's on Damen". Guessing it's another location for Cesar's On Broadway

Keene Addington, who stepped down as CEO of Flat Top Grill in 2009 (the company merged with Stir Crazy), is back on Chicago's restaurant scene. His Tortoise Club will open next year at 350 N. State St., offering sophisticated fare like Dover sole, steak tartar and filet mignon wrapped in asparagus. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/ ... rant-scene

I read the first half of your post with extreme interest: Blizzards of the Month could take on a new, adult quality.
Then I realized you meant former DQ.

Not sure where to post this, but I guess it's a going. Ron Messier, the owner of Pauline's at Balmoral and Ravenswood passed away last Friday. Think I'll go have a 5 egg omelet this weekend.
