In the north suburbs, can anyone please tell me if any restaurants in the area welcome groups of women who come for lunch and then stay to play cards or perhaps MAhJong.
I have seen this at Old Country Buffet years ago, but am interested in which establishments encourage this type of business currently.
Thanks!

Edited: Just noticed you were looking for North Suburbs, so this isn't immediately helpful, but might be of use to someone else.

You could get a cupcake at Molly's (2536 N Clark St). They have a variety of games available and encourage you to stay and play while you eat a delicious/ridiculous cupcake.

The only other thing I can think of is Gutherie's Tavern (1300 W Addison) in Wrigleyville, which is built around playing games and having drinks.

What about some place like Panera? They don't ever disturb you if you are just hanging out. You can always ask the manager about using their community room. Last year we were meeting a friend traveling from out of state and we chose Panera to meet because it was easy to find. We wound up sitting there for over 2 hours but no one ever botherrd us about being there. Out of guilt we did have coffee and some small bakery item but if you make it a lunch date or even a muffin date I'm sure they will accommodate.

I have heard that people play cards at Rhapsody in Deerfield, but I would check with the manager first.
I hear he is a pretty nice person.

Hi,

I have seen ladies playing games at Bertucci's in Highwood.

I would call in advance to check on the arrangements.

Regards,

My wife and her friend have played cards at Butterfield's in Northbrook and the food court at Golf Mill in Niles. I dfon't know about large groups but maybe a call would clarify. Butterfield's is only open until 3pm though.

I realize this has naught to do with the 'burbs, but it's such a good thread idea! We're talking about starting a Settlers of Catan night at Maria's Community Bar each Sunday if anyone is interested. It coincides nicely with the Sunday Carvery at Pleasant House Bakery next door.

We often dealt in shady dealings in the back of the Panera at 1700 Sherman, Evanston. I'm sure game-playing would be okay too.

there's also that Pinstripes place in Northbrook on Willow Road, which offers lots of their own gaming options (bowling, bocce ball, etc) in order to get people to come in and eat/drink. I think they'd probably be open to hosting this sort of thing, but you should probably call to confirm. the place is huge though, so I doubt that taking up a table for a few hours would be an issue for them as long as you purchased something to eat/drink.

Not in the suburbs, but the 3rd Coast Cafe encourages game playing in the form of providing several old-fashioned board games that can be used by patrons.

The Continental Restaurant in Buffalo Grove has added new space. My wife has seen women there playing cards and Mah Jong. It is best to call ahead to make sure the space is available.

Located at the northwest corner of Dundee and Buffalo Grove Rds.
