Thanks David (& Kristina). Someone has to put pencil to paper to make this happen.

On the 2 AM slot, are we not missing the obvious? Is not there a Korean place open then?

Great work too on the van.

It appears I am not going to be able to make this.

In early March I allegedly agreed to watch the kids while my wife is out of town...

Apologies.

I've been watching this thread with interest -- I'm hoping to meet up with the group to send you off on your way at Manny's, go back to work, and pick up the tour sometime late Friday evening with my husband and daughter until we can't take any more and need to go home.

Kids are welcome. They may be the only ones up at 4:00 a.m.

The van is certainly convenient, but what about peloton (pedaton?) members that join for a time via public transit? If there are no seats left in the van, they wouldn't be able to get to the next place as quickly as the van squad.

And another vote for Korean

My guess is that in addition to the van, there will be folks in cars who can give others a ride. It's also quite likely that there may be room in the van for random riders to hop on and off throughout the 24 hour period.

How late does Filbert's stay open? They may not exactly be thrilled to see a big group of customers at the end of the day when they'd rather be going home for the weekend.

Not to throw a monkey wrench into the plans, however, I had breakfast at the Ramova today and overheard the owners saying they would be open for another month, so it could possibly be worked into the rotation. BTW, don't bother trying to call this weekend, they are so busy they are not answering the phones.

RE: Korean - It's not an LTH favorite, but IMO it totally should be. But I've been on a buldak (korean fire chicken) kick lately. I have plans to post some of my findings on LTH soon, but I'll give a bit of a spoiler. My current favorite buldak is at Dancen, the bartender grills the fire chicken over live coals on a built in grill on the bar counter, and it's served with the charred bones. The name is not only in reference to the hot coals, the dish is the spiciest korean food I've eaten. It's a bar, on north Lincoln, so my guess is that on a Friday night they'd be open at least until 2, maybe later.

They also had an amazing cod roe soup. I have had this dish at various restaurants, but the cod roe is usually mealy and obviously previously frozen. This is in a whole other world, soft, fresh and smooth. The broth was clear and bright.

Laikom - great find in Dancen. I've heard others rave about their fire chicken. Another possible choice is DankHaus, which will be serving German food and beer at their monthly stamtisch (sort of a casual cocktail party with no cover charge)

I have made a google map with driving directions. I can keep this up to date as we change the plan. I used Hammond's latest list, however I only used the first restaurant listed when more than one were suggested on a given hour.

Here is the list I used:

Friday, Noon: Manny’s
1PM: Freddy’s
2PM: Klas
3PM: Johnnie’s
4PM: La Chapparita
5PM: Filbert’s
6PM: Ribs n’ Bibs
7PM: Pleasant House
8PM: Troha
9PM: Ed’s Potsticker House
10PM: Chi Cafe
11PM: Skylark
Midnight: Jim’s Original
1AM:Bai Cafe
2AM: Big Star
3AM: Arturo’s
4AM: Redhot Ranch
5AM: Diner Grill
6AM: Shan
7AM: Nha Hang
8AM: Don Pedro’s
9AM: Green City Market
10AM: JP Graziano
11AM: Intelligentsia

Here is the map (the map has 2 pages due to limitation in destinations per page on google maps):

http://g.co/maps/wvdb2

The driving distance is 99.1 miles and 3 hours, 58 minutes according to google.

I'm not familiar with a lot of these restaurants, so it would be nice if someone could double check that I have the addresses for the correct ones.

Saturday morning between Green City Market and Graziano's would be the perfect time for Hendrickx Belgian Bread Crafter.

These are our favorite croissants in the city. Mr.pairs4life usually eats 3 chocolate croissants on both days of the weekend and I am apt to have 2 plain croissants.

They also have Liege waffles. I'd be more than willing to place an order to insure an adequate supply because they were out of plain croissants when I arrived just After 10 this morning. Luckily, I waited for another batch to come out of the oven.

Okay, we need to get a fix on people who can commit to a seat on the van. The cost is $300 for the van for the full 24, patoriq is the Designated Driver, so if we get the full complement of 15, it will be like $20 each, which ain't bad. It's actually a good price even if you plan to attend only 12 hours or so.

Reply to this thread if you wish to reserve a seat on the van.

I will keep a running tally of committed individuals in the original post, under heading, People Who Have Reserved a Seat on the Van (max 15)

There will be some incidental costs for the van--gas, parking, meters, etc., so I'd figure on slightly more than the rental fee.

Good point. If we get 15 people, may be more like $25/person, but I'd say definitely not more than that. It's also possible at some high traffic venues that we may not even park and just opt to carry out food and eat al trunko.

I'd like a seat in the van, in fact I'll need one to accurately document the van happenings on video.

I don't want to prevent someone who's committed to the 'entire 24' from having a seat in the van, so I'll hold off on reserving a seat for now. It's most likely that I'll drive myself (and a few others, as is needed/possible) but if the van doesn't fill up, I may consider taking a spot.

Thanks!

Same here (except for the "driving myself" part--don't think that's gonna happen  )

Cool. I should mention that we do need some critical mass to make the van economically feasible.

Should the van not fill up to the point it needs to, you can count on me to reserve one of the seats.

Thanks ronnie, I appreciate that.

And as a side note, I do hope that everyone who asks for a reserved seat is fairly confident that they will be able to make it.

I've got 2 people, not sure how long we'll be there, but if you need van people to contribute, and it doesn't fill up, count us. We also could drive, though we are not planning to do the whole thing.

Maybe y'all should try for some cafe Cubano and flan at La Unica sometime in the afternoon? It would make a lovely restorative. I wish I could join you. Don't wait 10 years before doing it again!
