I'm driving and will plan to join up at Podhalanka or Riconcito and stay as late as I can.

Hey Surbano, at this point, we're working out details of how we might leave the car in one location to pick up later (VI suggested we drop off in Logan Square and retrieve later), so now I'm not 100% sure if we'll even have a car at Manny's...but we might. My guess is that there will be enough drivers to take care of all eaters. Looking forward to meeting you.

Easy walking distance (~2 blocks) to Manny's, you can park in the enclosed garage at the Whole Foods complex on Canal St for $5. Do NOT, however, try to park in the free surface lot or WF WILL tow your car.

It might be useful if several people who will attend the full 24 hours would post their cell phones (or to offer them by PM) for those of us who will be in and out to figure out how the schedule is going.

We will post our whereabouts on Twitter with hashtag #24chow. My twitter feed is @localfamily.

Posting this makes me think that more than anything, the required supplies for the event will be iPhone chargers.

I was thinking of packing one to recharge at HARD stops.

Tweeting makes a lot of sense.

Or invest in a cigarette lighter charger.

This sounds awesome. I may drop in and out via public transit.

Someone mentioned setting up a poll once the final list was made, maybe a Doodle would be the best option for this?

Hope you all have fun. Regretfully, I must attend vicariously. Please tweet and post frequently, with lots of pictures!

Glad you're going to make it ReneG. From the first voyage into 24-hour eating, in addition to you, there will be me and VI, patoriq, atomicman (probably), Seth Zurer and Ms. Eng -- those are, in fact, and aside from zim (who we contacted but have not heard from) and justjoan (laid up with broken femur; we're quite sad she can't come) the only people from that first trip who I can say with assurance are still alive, and they're all on-board.

Looks like we will be relying upon designated drivers for some of the trip, and although it goes without saying, it'd be nice to bump them a few bucks for gas now and again.

Hi,

Would it be ok if I brought some Nebraskan Runza's for people to sample? I want to practice shaping them. Plus I hear they go very well with ketchup!

Regards,

Absolutely! I'm hoping people will feel free to bring in whatever tickles them (though bringing stuff is not a requirement at all or even an expectation). Patoriq and I talked this morning and we're thinking we might swing by Johnnie's for some beeves to bring to Manny's (classic coals to Newcastle, right?).

Unfortunately it looks like Daughter and I will be doubtful - we had an "incident" in the kitchen. Suffice it to say we're getting new appliances
We have a lot of work to do - if we can catch up at some point we just may try but it's not likely.

Well, we can always swing by the Dank Haus for $5 German beers, pretzels and wurst.

Is the plan still to be at Joong Boo Market if the Snack Corner closes at 8?

We're going to have to see if we can get there earlier, or we may call an audible and go somewhere else. My cell is 708-902-3969 (I'd posted it earlier in this thread, and I'm cool with people calling and asking where we are).

I can't help with suggestions around UIC but maybe the Park & Ride at the Halsted stop of the Orange Line would be convenient (there are other Park & Rides too). It's $4 for 12 hours, is close to the afternoon near-south destinations and is 2 stops from the Loop.

If people are going to take more than a couple rides on the CTA, a 1 day pass for $5.75 might be a good investment. They're available at Walgreens, CVS, currency exchanges and other locations.

I had hoped to make most of this from the evening to the early morning, but work and a friend's wedding are going to make that difficult. For now, I plan to meet you at Sticky Rice and hopefully hang in for a few stops. Happy to drive anyone who needs a ride.

I really wish I could join you for more than the beginning of the journey. See you at Manny's at noon. I'll be with a colleague from work who is a long-time lurker. I'm hoping we can convince him to start posting...

Will be good to see you there, Suzy -- and as with anyone, there's no need to go full-psycho and eat for the full 24. Me, I can't wait. And the weather...well, as I recall, it was overcast and cool during the first such event ten years ago, and that didn't dampen enthusiasm (actually, I find this to be excellent eating weather).

I find very hot weather to be the least appetizing (I eat through the discomfort, of course).

If all your life you've wanted to push the limits, show people what you're made of, really make an impact, then today's the day to set those dreams aside and join us for 24 hours of eating. Maybe you'll say you can't eat that much -- hey, we're just having a bite or two at each stop, and how many bites do you normally have in a regular meal? You may say, well, this whole idea is crazy, and you might be right, but you know they said the same thing about DaVinci and Sheen. So join us, won't you, and do something you probably won't regret for but a day or two. The LTHForum.com 24hour Chowathon. Oh yeah, it's on. Start at Manny's, noon today.
