I believe Esca in NYC is the first italian seafood house. If it is a italian seafood house, were is the crudo, octopus, zuppa di pesce ( served w/ cavatelli puglese.

Poor take on an italian seafood house imo.

Other than its name, I saw no evidence whatsoever that this was an Italian seafood house . . . oh wait, there was a Tilapia Milanese on the menu and Italian dressing was available for the salads.

The funny part is, Taqueria Los Comales has Tilapia Milanesa on special Friday nights.

Amazed to see the thread on Di Pescara hasn't had a posting in nearly four years. We go here a few times a year, and it is usually as reliable as you expect from an LEYE restaurant. For the last three years or so, we have made it a Mother's Day tradition, in part due to convenience and in part because of a decent MD offering.

Today ends that tradition. So many things to complain about (and I think this might be my first truly negative comment on LTH, I'm that torqued). I was too steamed to ask for a manager but I did send them an email, we'll see if we hear anything.

The food was fine, not quite the usual Mother's Day special set menu, whatever. But for $39.95, one sort of expects a main course dish that is called "king crab legs and shrimp" to include a portion of more than one crab leg. And in a shocking display of stinginess for an LEYE place, the advertised Mother's Day promotion - in which the website says "All mothers will also receive a gift on behalf of the restaurant" - we were offered exactly ONE such gift (a $25 coupon). Mrs. EdB60035 even asked our phoning-it-in waiter for another since we had two moms at the table, and he said he would get "yelled at" that there was only one per table. I'm sure the table of 19 across the way from us took that news pretty well too :-o

Ugh. The 1 thing LEYE can usually be counted upon to deliver is great service, even if the quality isn't always stellar.

Had they never anticipated the obvious possibility that there'd be more than 1 mom at a table? I'm sort of shocked by the lack of foresight there and shame on them -- especially your lousy server -- for not making it right right on the spot. He sounds like a guy who knew his gratuity was already set via the number of diners at your table. At the very least, he should have summoned a manager on your behalf.

And yeah, last time I checked, crab legs is supposed to indicate more than 1.

All this said, I'll be shocked if they don't respond well and generously to your email. I'm guessing they'll do right by you, even though it should never have come to having to write an email.

In terms of getting a response from LEYE...don't necessarily count on it! We had several problems during a dinner at Saranello in Wheeling. I emailed corporate offices and have not gotten any response whatsoever (several months ago). If they pride themselves on customer relations, they have failed miserably.

That is surprising and unfortunate. Thanks, for the info.

Actually, someone called me a few minutes ago identifying himself as "one of the owners" (weird, I didn't know individual LEYE restaurants had owners? It certainly wasn't a Melman) and we discussed the situation. He was definitely surprised about the Mother's Day gift -- when I told him we only got one, complained, and got the "I'll get yelled at response", he responded "well at least you got another one, right?" LOL - uh, no.

Admittedly in addition to emailing through di-pescara.com yesterday I also earlier today filled out a form on LEYE.com - which actually has some really good analytics fields so clearly they WANT the feedback - and the guy called like five minutes later.

He promised to send an apology letter to my home residence, I will report back when received.

Most or all LEYE properties are owned by different partnerships.

just to close loop on my Mother's Day experience, following the call from the owner the other day, an envelope arrived today at home. Disappointingly, they did NOT send a second Mother's Day gift card, and I would have to say that what was there didn't match the expectations set in the phone call. Certainly not sufficiently to spend another $40 on "crab legS and shrimp" hoping to get more than one leg.

The food is fine. The atmosphere is usually fine. and while my disappointment probably won't move the needle on their business, I think they had an opportunity to rescue Mother's Day that they didn't quite hit.
