Having considered what you wrote and what the posters have replied, I'd enthusiastically endorse three of the places mentioned. In part, it depends on your judgment of your (plural) interests and predilections. Quince (where we ate fairly recently) was one of the best meals/dining experiences we've had in a long time. David Burke's is also top-notch; we had some of the best service we've ever had there, not to mention the pretty good steaks! And if seafood is a serious possibility, Oceanique (where, I must confess, we haven't been lately) is also an excellent choice.

Whatever you do, enjoy dinner. Sounds like a great time and don't forget to report back. (And if you get sick, lemme know, I'm sure I'd enjoy your Dad's company  )

It's also worth mentioning that Oceanique offers free corkage for BYO wines on Monday nights. So even though your inquiry this time is about Saturday, it's something to keep in mind in case you end up getting together with him again a couple of days later, or if he's here on a Monday during a future visit.

Anywhere Downtown is liable to be nutty if the promised craziness of the NATO summit really comes to pass. Oceanique sounds like a fine idea.

My friend who lives in Evanston says Quince is a winner and quiet. He has not had Oceanique yet, but I am sure it's good too (judging by the posts).

how did it go?

if it hasn't been yet, I was at Oceanique last week, and I was underwhelmed. my wife did like it, I ahve to say, but for the cost we could have had meals much more to my liking in Chicago, or even Evanston.

It hasn't "gone" yet, he'll be here a week from tomorrow. After talking to him, I figured out that he wanted to bring a couple of his own bottles of wine. Based on that, I decided to make a reservation at Quince, as several people recommended. This also made sense as it will minimize the amount he has to drive and will let us avoid any craziness that may result from the NATO summitt.

I'll be sure to report back on how it goes--thanks again for the suggestions!

I just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that my Dad and I enjoyed a great meal at Quince this past Saturday. We went with the chef's tasting menu (ended up being 8 courses), my dad brought two bottles of wine from his cellar that we managed to polish off  and we spent around 3 hours catching up on lost time. There were a lot of really great parts to the meal and only one or two off-moments (more on those eventually). My Dad took a bunch of pictures of our meal, so I'll post a full write-up with those when he sends them to me. But I just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions and say that the dinner was a smashing success!
