Glad I was able to help :D

There are plenty of references to it in the Nha Hang Viet Nam thread: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=33231&start=30 but I didn't know how to order it either in Vietnamese (or English for that matter), so I described it as best I could, and the dish that came out was similar to what everyone else had.

I may have to go back to this place later on this week to get some more.

They are called Baby Red Crab in English.

The key lime pie from Costco is pretty damn great.

The brisket from Christopher's Off the Bone is outstanding.

Slices of duck breast in a bordelaise sauce with enoki mushrooms, julienned beets & baby bok choy, sitting on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes at Todd's Unique Dining on Sunset in Henderson, NV, just southeast of McCarran Airport. So many disparate ingredients, this could've been a train wreck, but the execution was so good, the balance was so right, that I wanted a morsel of everything in each bite. Done very, very well. A Twomey by Silver Oak Merlot was the perfect complement.

As so many good Vegas restaurants are, Todd's is located in a nondescript strip mall & doesn't look like much, but it was recommended by a business associate who knows Todd's suppliers. Top notch all the way, a rare gem that lives up to its menu descriptions.

Todd's Unique Dining

Henderson, NV 89014

I have to show the link that inspired what the kid and I did yesterday for a late lunch for his friends.
http://thechive.com/2012/04/04/a-bacon- ... 19-photos/
(sorry- for some reason the IMG tag isn't working on this one)

The kid and his friends loved them. My wife thought that her burger was too thick. (I give her a break - she was brought up on McDonalds). Some of you may laugh at this but they were pretty good. The kids had a choice of filling. I figure I am allowed one or two a year. The next round by request of the teenagers is going to be fried. Some of the kids ate three of them. I was lucky to go through one.

Cinnamon Raisin Danish - it really doesn't look like much. However, the flavor explodes on your mouth. And there are tons of raisins in it.

Love, love, love the Hippo.
We get our birthday cakes there and they're fantastic every time.

Birria at the unnamed taqueria in the back of the Conoco station just off I-80 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Seriously.

Wife & I were on our way from Jackson Hole to Denver, and we stopped at this unremarkable gas station to answer Nature's call and perhaps get a snack. Luckily, the restrooms were all the way in back and took us past the small, unremarkable room with a few faded picture-menu placards and formica tables. We probably would have taken a pass, but: 1) no Anglos in sight, either behind the counter or at the tables; 2) the relish/garnish at the tables looked fresh and homemade; 3) they had menudo (it being a Sunday). The wife was severely disappointed that they had just run out of the menudo, but we consoled ourselves by splitting a birria platter, which was damn near perfect. The meat was tender with just the right level of saltiness, the tortillas may not have been homemade, but they tasted that way, and all of the fixin's were fresh and lovely. The utter improbability of it surely colored our reaction, but we both agreed it was some of the better Mexican food we'd tasted in a long time---and as a Chicago-Texas couple, we consider standards reasonably high.

So if you're ever in southwestern Wyoming, heading towards Salt Lake City or coming out of the Tetons, check it out (and tell me how the barbacoa is).

The foie gras on a waffle at Longman & Eagle is one spectacular dish. I could eat it every day (or until my money runs out).

That sounds awesome! Was it a whole seared lobe? And, is it available during just brunch or for dinner too?

It was a sliced round rolled in pistachio bits set atop the waffle which was on a dollop of chocolate sauce. There was a bit of quince paste and a couple of other accompaniments (I'm embarassed that I remember next to nothing about the rest of the dish but I fell into a trance when it appeared and I made it disappear pretty quickly). I'm thinking of heading back this weekend for a fix. Oh, and this was at dinner, no idea if it's also on the brunch menu.

I've never had a bad meal there but the Margarita pizza with Dante Lamb cheese, pepperoncini and diced pepperoni (from Salumeria Biellese) we ate at Great Lake was out of this world!

Hot polish off the lunchtime grill Allwan Bros. meats - Peoria, il.

Poppin and spicy, grabbed some to take home from the market. These cats know sausage.

Among several great dishes at Vera last night, the best thing I ate was a beef tongue pincho. Several cubes of perfectly cooked tongue paired with a perfectly acidic salsa verde. Probably the "simplest" thing we ate, but a dish I'll be thinking about for a long time.

Jim, my in-law family lived about a mile away and that is where they bought most of their meat, especially for the grill. Good find! Currently others in the family use Pottstown Meat, one is a fireman and it's the choice of the firehouse.

NICE !!
I was fortunate enough to have this dish in January. At that time it was for sure the best thing I had eaten lately.

Simple, simple. Fresh marzano tomatoes from my patio, sauted in butter with some salt, pepper, pasta sprinkle from Penzey's, and pasta.

The taste of the fresh tomatoes was intense -- just perfect!

Scallops and gnocchi at Takashi. Great flavor, perfectly cooked scallops, and the gnocchi were heavenly little pillows.

I had them as part of the tasting menu. They were the standout of the evening and a standout in recent memory.

I didn't remember thinking Sarpino's was anything special. Then I had the Basiliko Pizza (eggplant, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, tomatoes, basil and cilantro; olive oil base; Sarpino's cheese blend and Parmesan) Saturday, and it was fantastic. I can't wait until my next excuse to eat pizza.

I always that Sarpino's = Domino's/Papa John quality and because I live in Chicago I refuse to subject myself to any of those due to our pizza landscape.

Hmmm...

Now I think I'll have to try the Basiliko.
Sarpino's ain't great by any stretch of the imagination but I put it squarely above Domino's, plus they have great hours, 2am during the week an 4 on the weekend and they're open just about 365 days a year. I seem vaguely recall some VERY late night new years eve and Christmas day pizzas.

If Sarpino's is the best thing you've eaten lately I can't even imagine what else you were eating that was worse.

My softball team recently made ourselves one of at least two to be 'sponsered' by Toons. The Buffalo Chicken Po Boy sandwich there, is easily the best thing I've eaten lately and among the best sandwiches I've had in this city.

Image
(pic stolen from ChiBBQKings website)

The chicken was fried perfectly, and had a righteous amount of crunch. Their buffalo sauce is very well regarded (for good reason) and the bread was soft, crusty and did a mostly great job holding the sandwich together.
