Not now. I know this because I've checked EVERY local baker of Atomic Cake.

Pete's Fresh Market doesn't bake their own Atomic Cakes—they're from Chicago Sweet Connection—but I wouldn't be surprised if they sell more than anyone, and they sell slices.

I think Pete's routinely carries only the chocolate-topped "super" version but I understand you can order a "regular" Atomic Cake as well.

    How was it?

There's a Pete's Fresh Market in my town and I'm hosting the Dessert Exchange next Sunday, so I'll check and see if my Pete's has the individual slices and then we can have a taste test.

I'm curious about this, too. Chicago Sweet Connection is located close to my house, and they seem to be the source of most of the cakes you see in the rotating cake displays at many of the Greek owned coffee shops in the area. Most of their stuff I've found to look far better than it tastes, though they do turn out a respectable loaf of bread. How was the Atomic Cake?

P.S. CSC does sell single slices of most of their offerings at the store.

At one point CSC Atomic cakes & others were sold at Costco in either Merrillville or Orland Park. I never bought one.

As far as Sweet Connection goes, it would be 10 on presentation and 5 for taste. It is such a bland bakery unless I am buying a feta bun, savory is the way to go here.

Can't say I'm too surprised to hear the Atomic Cake from Chicago Sweet Connection isn't very good. I wasn't recommending it (never tried it), only pointing out that slices can be found. I just realized what is sold by Chicago Sweet Connection is hardly an Atomic Cake—it has a layer of cheesecake and doesn't contain fresh bananas. What can you expect? They're from the northwest side.

Atomic Cake cups should be available throughout the year at Cal City Bakery. This is a brand new business in the old Steffens' Bakery location, opened on Paczki Day 2014 by a former worker at Calumet Bakery (both longtime sellers of Atomic Cakes). They’re still ramping up to full production so the cups may not be available for a while but you can certainly order a regular Atomic Cake from them.

Mrsm bought an Atomic Cake today from Ultra Foods and brought it to the dessert exchange since many of us were curious and it was a good place to split up a cake. The cake wasn't bad, but it was topped with what was probably Rich Whip, certainly not real whipped cream.

For those on the north side of Chicago, Strack & Van Til is apparently a sister store to Ultra Foods. Not sure if they also sell atomic cake.

That was pretty good. I forgot there was a layer of banana cake too.

Growing up, Atomic was my birthday cake of choice. Mom got them from Ingram's Busy Bee formerly of Worth, now of Downer's Grove.

Thanks for the tip that they reopened,Rene. I sure miss the rye bread that Steffans made. I hope they can recreate that.

This was driving me crazy. I knew I'd gotten an Atomic Cup in Chicago some years ago but had a tough time remembering where. Found the photos at last.

Aha! Thanks! I will have to find an occasion to head down here to try a cup, at least.

If you’re ever in a bakeshop on Chicago’s South Side, you’ll probably see a towering confection that stacks three cakes into one glorious treat. Welcome to the world of Atomic Cake, where layers of banana melt into fluffy custard, tangy reverberations of strawberry are cut short by deep, rich chocolate, and everything is shrouded in a blanket of whipped cream.

I really enjoyed Atomic Cake the one time that I had it. Purchased at Calumet Bakery. The only problem is that the it tended to fall apart as you slice it because of the fillings.
