If one of the businesses slows down then you are covered and not left with no money.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Mr. Shrimp looks like he's related to Mr. Peanut!

It's almost like what Mr. Peanut would look like if he was British! Or maybe Mr. Peanut's little cousin from across the pond!

I spent last night at a Holiday Inn Express in the south side of Indianapolis last night. I regret not having my camera to take one of the finest examples of restaurant signage I have ever seen. I almost bought a disposable camera this morning to take a picture, but the lights were out on the sign and the sun wasn't up yet.

Here's a reasonable visual with an accurate quote.

LUCKY BUFFET
BBQ, SUSHI
STEAK, SEAFOOD

Anyone up for a road trip:?:

I did hit Shapiro's Delicatassen for a breakfast of corned beef hash and eggs. Lunch was pastrami, matzo ball soup, a latke. Take was 1 lb each of corned beef and pastrami, a loaf of rye bread, a cheesecake brownie, and 2 chocolate chunk cookies. Outstanding, well worth missing the Lucky Buffet. 8)

Driving on the tollway this morning south of O'Hare, El Famous Burrito has a billboard, one of the few not coated with snow.

The center of the sign says,

FRESH AND HOT
HOT OR NOT

Uhhhhh..... what exactly are you trying to communicate here?

Booby's!

That was my place from 68-75 and then again from 80-83. That guy with the glasses was real. He was Booby. I'm not sure his full name. My sister called him Mr. Booby. He looked like that but was heavier :) . Mrs. Booby, Sally, still works at Booby's calling out the order in special Booby's patois. Back in the day, there was even a white VW Beatle Boobie-mobile for deliveries (which my daughter did not believe me).

The original Booby's had a fire about 15 years ago, and the reincarnation has never been as good. They used to cook ribs in a classic Chicago aquarium pit. After RJ Grunts, Booby's introduced their own version of a salad bar, that I just loved, with over-sweet corn relish, and sauerkraut, and pickles and green tomatoes, and apple sauce and pudding, a real Chicago salad bar.

I, Pigmon and my daugther actually ate at Booby's about a month ago. The burger, to my taste, was way over-charred. It was, however, dressed as in the old days, with BBQ sauce, cole slaw and a pickle.

Thanks for the pic!

Seen at the corner of Milwaukee and Harlem:

"Parking for Nuts, etc."

Seen on a dog grooming truck:

"It's a doggy dog world."

Seen somewhere up in northern wisconsin under the name of the store:

"Guns and Liquor!"

Seen on the big marquee out front of the Twin Drive-in in Wheeling:

"THE INCREDIBLE F---ING WOMAN"

There weren't any dashes in the real sign. I almost drove off the road on that one. The movie was really the incredible shrinking woman.

One of my favorites was on the northwest coast of Australia, on the Indian Ocean. It is an area with a lot of sharks, but there are lots of other fish, and fishermen line the shore near the large caged-in area for swimmers. A sign nearby warns:

Cleaning of fish on these rocks is prohibited. Offenders will be eaten.

Spotted in Puerto Vallarta. I guess their sanitation requirements are a little different than those in Chicago.

In the past few months Chicago has lost two great signs:

and

are both no more. I loved these signs, so this is a sad day.

If these signs say anything, it might be hunting season in Iraq.

From the privacy screens seen just over the frost windows, they do indeed do "Personal fittings."

Wow!

Patent 1 from Aug 25, 1925 and #2 from Feb 22, 1927.

Them's some innovative trusses.

edit: Just throwing in this one from 1878, because I love the drawings. Even if it's not from the company in question.

Here's one I see a few times a year, when I drive through Tipton, IN to visit my MIL . . .

We've stopped here for gas and for bathroom breaks but never for the food. Maybe next time . . . :D

Seen in rural Montana at an establishment called the ROADKILL CAFE:

From your grill to ours.

"Themeline" seen on a plumber's truck in Idaho:

Where a flush beats a full house.
