The Evanston Lunch Group™ will hold its annual summer picnic Wednesday, August 23, 12:30 pm in Larimer Park, Evanston. The picnic will be a chance for all of us to remember Gale Adams, aka Tarte Tatin.

Gale passed away last February, as discussed in this thread. She was an active and enthusiastic LTHer, and had attended most of the Evanston Lunch Group™'s gatherings for at least the last ten years.

At her memorial service, several of Gale's family members commented about how often she mentioned looking forward to chatting with and getting together with her "food group.” We enjoyed getting together with her, and her always upbeat attitude, too.

For this picnic, we’ll get carryout from a number of favorite places, and convene on the picnic benches under the shelter in Larimer Park. Attendees willing to pick up easily sharable carryout for the group should sign up as such; others are most welcome too, to share whatever is brought. I’ll keep a list of who’s picking up food, and from where, as well as others joining us. By checking the list the day before or so, those picking up carryout should be able to gauge the appropriate quantities to bring. We’ll do our best to settle up at the picnic.

Larimer Park is one block east of Ridge, and one block south of Dempster. Parking is available on Crain St, or on Oak Ave south of Dempster (which ends in a cul-de-sac at the park’s edge). Here’s a map:

I’m hoping for a good turnout on Gale’s behalf.

    See you there!

I will attend and I will be happy to pickup. However, I do not know anything about restaurants in the area and need your suggestion about where I should pick up.

Tom (nr), thank you for setting this in motion, and thank you for choosing a day that I can attend. I will happily pick up something, perhaps at Riobamba.

I hope that it will be an annual tradition. Gale deserves no less. But who will bring the Tarte Tatin?

This event is happening on a day when I can't come, but I'll be with you in Tarte spirit.

Hopefully this event will be annual and I'll be able to join you in the future.

I know Gale would have been delighted that we will get together and eat well in her memory. She is definitely missed.

I will bring some fried chicken from Evanston Chicken Shack.

In terms of convenience via direct proximity to the picnic, Hewn Bakery is only 2 blocks east of the park on Dempster. While they unfortunately don't offer the Tarte Tatin, they offer several croissants and other breads that might mesh with proteins being brought by others.

First edition of a lovely tradition.
I will bring a gyros with spicy tzaziki sauce and a side of taramosalata from Avli Rotisserie.

    Hi,

I plan to attend. I will attempt to make her namesake tarte tatin. Worse comes to worse, I will make an apple pie.

    Thanks for thinking of this!

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I looked at the web site and I will bring from Tomate Fresh Kitchen.

While I am somewhat new to the group, I have a good story to add to our celebration of this wonderful person.

I would love to attend this in memory of Gale <3 ,
unfortunately that bugaboo of work will interfere.
Perhaps we can do something in her honor as well at the picnic in Sept?
So sad to hear that she is gone :(

I'm sorry I can't make it as I will have just returned from 10 days vacation.
I fully and wholeheartedly support a TT themed lunch; she epitomized the community spirit that I love so much about Lth.

Yes, weather was perfect. And foods from all over made for a great picnic.

In effect, it was like a small rehearsal for the LTH picnic next month. A few of the group:

But the best part was the stories remembering Gale.

We shared wonderful memories of Tarte Tatin, or perhaps memories of wonderful Tarte Tatin.

I hope that this will be an annual tradition.

Just received this e-mail from Gale's son, who lives in Glenview.
    Eric Adams wrote:Hi Tom –

Thank you very much for your note about the picnic. As you guessed, we were not able to make it due to the timing as I was at work and it was the first day of school for all of my kids. I know my mother always loved to attend the food events with the group and I am sure she was smiling down on you all that day.

I hope you had a wonderful time and thanks for honoring her,

    Eric
