This thread is for nominating photos for the Photo Contest. Anyone may nominate, which is basically calling the judges' attention to a photo you like that they might otherwise overlook. Please include either the URL of the photo (so it will display here) with a link to the post, or at least a link to the post and some description (e.g., "third photo," "picture of char-grilled squid").

Photos taken from May 1 to June 30, 2007 will be eligible for the grand prizes; other photos, as long as they were posted for the first time during 2007, can also be nominated for later use in a possible LTHForum calendar.

Note that while we encourage nominations, for the sake of the judges, please don't go hog wild tossing URLs up here. Exercise some judgement in picking out really exceptional food porn (defined liberally to include food shots, eating shots, kitchen shots, and so on).

And remember, self-nominations are entirely welcome, or, if you feel bashful about tooting your own horn, you can PM me with the URL and I'll post it or pass it along to the judges.

Is that from an existing thread?

Note that everything linked to here should come from somewhere, even if it's just a "here's my cool photography of such-and-such" thread (preference, of course, is for photography as part of a report on some place to eat). That way, it's out in the forums where it can spark other posts and discussion as well.

Joel,

Thanks for the compliment on the photo, but I do believe I'm ineligible.

Also, Ramon and all others who post in the photo nomination thread, please provide a link to the thread from whence it came.

Enjoy,
Gary

Doubly ineligible, one, because no moderators, and two, because the contest for the grand prizes is for things first posted May 1 to June 30, 2007 (we'll let the things posted last night after I put up the announcement slide in) and for the calendar, which is hypothetical anyway, posted during calendar year 2007.

Here are a couple to help get the idea rolling (all qualified only for the calendar, alas):

Nice pics but not sure which one(s) you mean to nominate... To link directly to the photo from Flickr, click on "ALL SIZES" above the image you want, then pick a size 600 pixels wide or less and click on that, then go down to #2, "Grab the photo's URL." Put that between image brackets and it will display in the thread.

Is it okay to post a 600 pixel wide photo and have the hi-res version available upon request?

That's exactly what you should do, yes.

Serves me right for not reading the rules. I may just have to go hunt out another cemita myself to photograph.

I'm truly flattered trixie-pea, but, as I understand things, am not eligible for this contest with this photo.

However, I'll definately be shooting for a nomination to this thread/contest with a few upcoming posts! I've been toying with ideas and planning my attack ever since I saw the new logo...

Great idea and inspiration, Mike/adminstrators!

Ah, yes. I see now. Well, then it should definitely be considered for the April photo in the potential LTH calendar.

First post ever..

I've been taking pictures of my food for a loooong time. And in light of all the "How much of a fatty do you have to be to take a picture of something you're about to eat as if it's one of your children" looks I get from those dining with me, I still do it. Anyway, here's my contribution to you LTH

(it's much bigger on my computer but I'm not smart enough to find out how to post it as a downloadable version)

The title certainly evokes a nice sentiment, but nothing makes my skin crawl quite like a photograph of chewed food.

Same for me, terrific picture, though I'd love to have had a go at it about 7-minutes prior to the picture being snapped. :)
