I will be hosting a paczki fun day on the 3 February at the bakery, Delightful Pastries. People will fry their own paczki, glaze them and fill them with what ever filling they like. The fillings will include plum butter, rose petal jelly, raspberry, blueberry, custard, boozy custard, and fresh strawberry and whipped cream. Everyone will have a dozen paczki to eat or to take home. Also we will do traditional chrusciki which are cruellers and people will munch on some and take some home. Coffee, tea and milk will be provided. This event will start at 2PM and finish around 3:30PM depending on how much fun everyone is having. The cost is $15.
If anyone is interested please RSVP by January 31.

5927 W Lawrence Avenue
Chicago, IL 60630

I'm hoping to make it. Right now I am tentative, but I'd like to just mention that Cookie Monster's Paczki's are among the best I have tasted.

Since there seems to be a Mike G love-festgoing on these days, here's what he had to sayabout the paczkis at Delightful Pastries.

Wish I could make it, I'm afraid I'm booked...but should mention (having been in said kitchen and sampled the jelly, if not the whole product) that along with the certainty of deliciousness inherent in this event, the paczi-injector widget is a joy to behold, and I'm jealous of anyone who gets to use it. If I ever get the chance at a fancy kitchen, I plan on having one built-in over my sink. :D

At www.southtownstar.com/ there's an article on how Zettlmeier's Bakerei in Tinley Park prepares theirs along with a short video of the process.

This sounds so nifty! I'll try my best to get there. Does that mean Fat Tuesday is 2/5 already?!

I just realized that this event is happening on Superbowl Sunday (which probably explains the preponderance of women who are attending). Unfortunately, I'll be home watching Tom Brady cap off a perfect season and will not be able to make it to the paczki event. Darn!

Neither Tom Brady, nor Superbowl halftime commercials, can keep me away... See you there!

Doesn't the game start at 5:30p.m.? Plenty of time to get the game in, too.

Not if you've got to tend the smoker all day.

Dobra, I so wish I could come, but it's a scheduled day that I volunteer.

I was wondering if you'd give me an idea of what was in the dough so I could see if I could make them gluten-free (I know I can't duplicate it completely, but)

Feel free to PM me if you'd rather take it off line...and if it's a bakery secret, I completely understand if you prefer not to share...

I really want to do this, and I'm trying to talk a couple of friends into coming with me. I will let you know for sure (and give the headcount) by the deadline.

Thanks for organizing what looks to be a fabulous event.

I'd be willing to trade a Paczki delivery for some of the products coming out of the earlier mentioned smoker.... : )
