He informed me of a service charge from Grub Hub to restaurants for pickup orders, in this case $7.50. When I placed on my order, the screen showed I would have been charged $7.50 for delivery, but it appeared to be waived for pickup. I had no idea that this charge was passed on to the restaurants, so it looks like this was my last ever Grub Hub order. When paying for my meal I tipped him extra, to offset this fee, and he was extremely reluctant to accept it, trying very hard to return the money. Clearly his intent was just to educate me about GH for future circumstances, so consider it a lesson learned. I also received a carryout menu, and it indicates online ordering is available at http://www.rainbowcuisine.us, as mentioned by geli.

Post #304 - April 7th, 2022, 11:19 pmPer Jazzfood's excellent suggestion, 9 of us met up at Rainbow Thai for an excellent dinner on Thursday. It had been quite a while since I went anywhere and enjoyed ordering power, so this really felt like the old days in the best possible way. We ordered pairs of each dish, which seemed like the perfect amount of food for the 9 of us. Mostly some of the greatest hits, with a few personal favorites mixed in . . .
Chive Dumplings
Issan Sausage
Nam Khao Tod
Somtum with Dried Shrimp
Hor Mok
Thai Fried Chicken
Crispy Pad See Ewe
Duck Curry
Chinese Broccoli & Crispy Pork Belly
Sweet Glutenous Rice
These were generously comped by the house. Steamed in banana leaves, I think it was tea-infused and those may have been adzuki beans but I'm really not sure.
It was a great meal and I really appreciate Alan putting it together for us. I live pretty far from Rainbow, so while they were only doing carry-out, it didn't make much sense for me to order to go. But now that they're once again open for dining in, it was great to be back. Pramote made it pretty clear that they're struggling right now and hurting for business, so if you appreciate Rainbow, best to get in there asap and give them a boost.

Really sorry I had to miss this -- I had a meeting with folks overseas, but the LTH crew certainly knew the right stuff to order. I hope there were multiple platters of the Nam Khao Tod -- there's never enough of that.
(on top of the LTH event, The English Beat were playing at the Des Plaines Theater, which I'd have liked to see too... but Rainbow would have come first on my list)What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?

This is a good value. I bought some Issan sausage and eggrolls for take out, which was something like $25 including generous tip.
If I could only be in two places at once.

Post #312 - April 12th, 2022, 12:14 pmWe dined there on Saturday night with our daughter who lives closeby and they are indeed still BYOB! It felt great to be back dining in instead of carryout & everything we ordered was perfectly scrumptious! We ordered fresh spring rolls w/peanut sauce, chive dumplings, thai jerky w/spicy green beans, somtum, Isaan sausage, chinese broccoli w/crispy pork belly, nam khao tod and crispy pad see ewe. Yes, a tad bit heavy on the food ordering for 3 people but we were planning on leftovers;)!
We went around 8:00 and were the only ones in there, but it sounds like word hasn't spread that they're open yet, so hopefully things will start picking up for them.

Question for those who know the business better: if you google Rainbow Thai, two separate websites come up for orders, rainbowthaichicago.com and orderrainbowthaicuisine.com. One is powered by something called eatstreet and the other by menustar. Is this normal / legit? I've heard of scams where people try to impersonate a legit restaurant to siphon off business and I would hate to think that was happening to these guys.

I’d add to this that there are some items that they don’t even put on the online menus—if you call, they’ll usually make them and you can specify if you want a certain spice level. Ditto on the above 2 comments... always order direct when possible. Not only does the restaurant not have to take a cut and the customer gets more options, but it's also an opportunity to get to know a/o keep in contact with the wonderful, hard-working & talented entrepreneurs & sometimes chefs of the establishments. I truly believe they need our moral support just as much as we need their support & products! Society is losing so much personal connections due to automation. End of vent;)!

I guess what is different to me here is that both of these websites claim to be the restaurant's official site, on which I might be more inclined to order. I am a bit skeptical that either is, but could be wrong.

It needs a lot more, because we are not enough to keep it going. They need publicity to get to the broader world.
They seem to have a facebook page, but it not really populated. That is an inexpensive start to kicking things into gear. You can then link and highlight what they offer.

Extra thanks to whoever posted the picture of Crispy Pad See Ewe, because I had no idea such a thing existed and it's sooooooo good.

Post #323 - March 11th, 2023, 9:39 pmWe dined here for the first time tonight. It was a little sad that we were the only people dining in from 7pm-8:30pm on a Saturday night. Surprising, because it’s pretty cute in there and the food quality is so high. There were 5-6 carry-out pick-ups while we were there and the phone rang sporadically.
We started with Thai Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce and Nam Khao Tod. Entrées were Crispy Pad Seiw with Tofu, Panang Curry with Chicken and Chicken Basil entree. I loved the char they got on the tofu and broccoli in the Pad Seiw. If Rainbow were 5-10 minutes from home they would easily be our go-to carry-out.
I have claimed the Nam Khao Tod leftovers and am looking forward to lunch tomorrow!
