Two new Middle Eastern restaurants opened in our area in the last month, Mr. Hummus and Tannour. I posted about Tannour in Open/Close, disappointing sums up our experience.

On the other hand, Mr. Hummus is wildly terrific right out of the gate, smooth flavorful hummus, falafel with crisp outside and a moist herbal interior plus tip top chicken shawarma. I brought home a chicken shawarma bowl for the bride that rated two thumbs up.

And yes, falafel were fried to order.

Mr. Hummus is clean with attention paid to Covid regs, tasty and inexpensive for deliciousness received. Plus a comfortable, if minimalist, dining room, with a interactive owner who seems to care deeply about the quality of his food.

I'm already planning a return visit.

I would, for sure, try a place called Mr. Hummus.

Ironically. While the owner does not pronounce his name like the bowl of leafy greens. His first name is spelled Salad.

Yet, if I was looking for a perfectly prepared prime, dry aged ribeye I would steer clear of a place named Mr. Meat.

Recent Mr. Hummus lunch visit. New people at the helm, old owner sold. Same menu, same signage, same everything. On the plate was ok/fine, but the sparkle that raised the old Mr. Hummus above the fray seemed to be missing.

The new people have been there 3-months, enough time to get situated, so its not new joint jitters. I'll try again in a month or so, but don't have great expectations.

I asked for olive oil and the extra pickle topping the hummus/shawarma plate.

Current version of Mr. Hummus didn’t last long. Windows are all papered up and the signage removed from the door.

I drove by today and there is a sign on the window saying:
    "Jaffa Shawarma opening soon"
