Guess I'm not used to being a nonresident. Might as well just park somewhere along Roger Williams.

    Hi,

There are time limits on Roger Williams. I believe it is two hours.

May as well park at Braeside or at the forest preserve. There is a hill to walk down to the Botanic Garden, which you need to walk up when you may not feel so refreshed. It is a gentle hill, but a hill nonetheless.

    Regards,

Any updates on food around the Botanic Gardens? I am going for the first time soon, and would like to find a place to have lunch first. Any new places or old recs that are still worth a visit?

Assuming that you’re driving, what direction are you coming from?

Looking through this thread, Guildhall in Glencoe is not mentioned. Very solid place. If the weather is nice, you can reserve outdoor seating.

I am coming from way South/West, and meeting a friend who is coming from North. Both driving. So ideally, some place closer to the Gardens. We'd love to eat outside, but delicious food is key. Then go to the Gardens after.

Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but I'd go have a shrimp cocktail and a burger at Charlie Beinlich's. It's located at 290 Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook. Closed on Sunday and Monday.

Thanks for your recs. We will go on a Sunday, so I am learning that several good places don't have Sunday lunch (anymore....?).

Normally I go for more hole in the wall, neighborhood ethnic food places, but I think for this outing it is nicer to be outdoors if possible, interesting setting/atmosphere and very good food/drinks.

I would go to Prairie Grass. They are close, and they have outdoor seating, and they are open on Sundays.

Good choice. But unfortunately they don't have Sunday Brunch/lunch anymore.

Barnaby's of Northbrook (960 Skokie Blvd) is near the Chicago Botanic Garden and opens every day at 11 am.

It's a little farther away but hardly a long drive to Hackney's on Harms. Great old school vibe, in some ways similar to Charlie Beinlich's but more variety and better food and service.

And if time or budget is tight or kids are involved, 2 good hot dog places: Dear Frank's in Deerfield and Little Louie's in downtown Northbrook.

    Thanks for these suggestions.

Any thoughts on Desotto's? I don't know it but my friend has been and says it is solid and has brunch and an outdoor space?

Never heard of it. Google shows one in Alabama.

Guildhall as suggested above would be a great option for sitting outdoors. Pomeroy in Winnetka is also very good and has a nice outdoor patio. Towne and Oak also in Winnetka is a great early day option and offers some sidewalk seating. Ravinia Brewing is a decent spot with plenty of outdoor tables and is open all day on Sundays. You can also order food from BWB Shakes next door. Abigail's in Highland Park would be the perfect choice but they are unfortunately closed on Sundays (and only offer dinner service).

I think it's disotto (sic). Mid/upscale Italian in Highwood.

I must disagree with Ravinia Brewing or BWB, both extremely mediocre Sysco food.

I recommend Once Upon a Bagel or Walker Brothers, both in "uptown" Highland Park.

Disotto is part of the Francesca's group, with a similar regular menu. Haven't done the brunch in a few years but it used to be quite good, with a make your own bloody mary bar.

looking for something interesting either on the Chicago North Shore, Glenview, Evanston or Northbrook area for our family of 5 Sunday night. Was thinking originally Korean, but have a vegetarian in our group so can't be a bbq place. Not too expensive, but will pay for good food that is also family friendly. I know where to go here in Oak Park, but clueless up north. Was planning on a korean place in Evanston- but its closed on Sunday.

Tapas Gitana in Northfield is nice. Just off of 94, so very accessible.

A little closer to the garden, Prairie Grass Café in Northbrook is also nice.

10Q is a Korean chicken place, the only Korean-ish place I know that's open on a Sunday in Evanston.
