Continuing my search of great eats just off Edens, we come to Halal Express Mart, on Dempster just west of OMG Nafisa.

Somewhat like the great market/packaged hot food joint "Royal Malabar" in Glenview, Halal Express Mart has a few aisles of packaged Indo-Pakistani food, but the real reason to come is the take-out.

Halal Express Mart's food is not pre-packaged like Royal Malabar, but made to order. I tried the Chicken Biryani which was overstuffed and just $10.99. I thought it was pretty darn good -- spicier than OMG Nafisa but a worthy competitor on the block.

The grill in back has a LOT of options, so I'll be back to try more soon.

Thanks for the info about the hot food available in the back. I'll have to check it out; had no idea it was there.

One of the best places to eat in the Skokie/Morton Grove Dempster corridor [assuming you like Korean food] is

Chen Ju/Golden Chopsticks . . . it's all about the goat stew, IMO.

Begs the question of responsibility for off-menu failures. When one forces the issue, there's still basic liability, but it can't possibly be as strict.

Yeah, it sucks when a menu favorite disappears. But venture off-menu to fetch it at your own risk. There's probably at least one good reason it was 86'd in the first place, and that reason is a likely barrier to them making it as they once did. So, just because a place may still be willing to make something doesn't mean they're able to. And no one wants a zombie version of anything.
