    Más Salud recently opened in the site on Clark Street formerly occupied by Clarke's Diner. It's one of several new, creative Mexican/Latin entries in town, along with Zentli and Estación (both associated with Libertad in Skokie) and Fonda (associated with Michael in Winnetka).

    Today the Evanston Lunch Group™ ate lunch there and it was excellent! All the dishes were really good; it's a great addition to our local dining scene!

    The interior has not changed much. The front room, where we were seated, consists of high-top tables:

    We ordered five dishes - three small plates and two large plates - and the amount of food was perfect for lunch for the six of us. Here's what we had:

    Empanadas de Yuca - Fried pastry stuffed with chihuahua cheese and seasoned, mashed yuca (Spain/Central and South America) - Yuca is a root vegetable similar to a potato, used in a lot of Central and South American dishes

    Shrimp Skewers - Grilled and spiced shrimp tossed in Nayarit sauce on top of papas fritas and tomatillo pico de gallo

    Albóndigas - Beef and Pork mixed Mexican meatballs tossed in chipotle tomato sauce topped with herb whipped goat cheese served with a seared cheese telera roll (note - it didn't seem like a roll, but rather, just seared cheese similar to the Greek dish saganaki)

    Tinga Flautas - Corn tortilla rolled and fried, stuffed with marinated shredded chicken and lettuce. Topped with cotija cheese, pickled onions, served with salsa verde and crema (Mexico)

    Ceviche - Diced shrimp, onions, cilantro, tomatoes, mangos, topped with avocado slices tossed in lime and seasoning served with tostadas and valentina aioli (Mexico/Argentina)

    We ate at Más Salud again last night (Friday night). The food was very good. I took photos, but we must have been sitting under a pink light fixture because they all came out with pink overtones. The service was good when the restaurant was empty when we were seated at 5:30, but an hour later, when it had filled up, it was just horrible. I realize that restaurants tend to be understaffed these days for various reasons (financial, difficulty finding help, etc) and I am generally sympathetic. However, it should not take half an hour to attract the attention of a server, and even then only by standing up and walking over to the food pickup station. If you don't have an endless amount of time, it's probably best to go there on a weeknight or at lunchtime.
