Breslin said several factors went into the couple’s decision to close the restaurant. “Like all restaurants, we’ve been struggling with staff shortages, food inflation, beverage and alcohol inflation,” he said Wednesday night.

“Post-COVID, there’s not really as much business around the downtown area, so we’ve been struggling with getting people in the doors.”

Liz and Patrick Breslin signed a lease Feb. 29 to reopen The Celtic Knot. Making the move from Church Street to Central Street, the new Knot will be located in the former Lush Restaurant site, 2022 Central St.

Looks like a much smaller space, at least on the outside, compared to their Church Street location. Maybe they'll Tardis up the joint to achieve more seating.

On the plus side, there's a reasonably priced public parking lot across the street.

They could not afford the rent on their old location, and they were looking for a smaller location. COVID did them in.

I think a major component of the new location's capacity is the rear patio.

That may be, but having eaten out back in its Lush days, it doesn't strike me as a particularly large place to add a lot of capacity.

Yeah, I checked it out on Google Earth and saw a photographic satellite image of the property. The space behind the main building is practically nonexistent.

We had an Evanston Lunch Group at Lush a few years ago. The outdoor space held 5 or 6 tables. It's a much smaller space than Celtic Knot had on Church Street, and nothing like the Snug that the old Celtic Knot had (where I had several private events), but Patrick and Liz were always great hosts, and I wish them the best.
