Walking past Amano Bistro on Lincoln Ave. Appears that it's pretty close to opening. Looked there was some family in nice clothes hanging around with the doors open. No web site yet. In the old Robert et Filles (Kitsune) location.

Long-time Lakeview Scottish-themed pub Duke of Perth is temporarily closing on May 25th, after which they will eventually re-open in a new location at 2827 N. Broadway. No word on a re-opening date, only that "work is in progress" at the future site.

This is the former Renaldi's Pizza location. I'm guessing that the rent is cheaper on Broadway than it is on Clark street.

They are literally just moving around to the other side of the block (or triangle if you prefer.) I can't imagine there's an appreciable difference in rent moving just a few hundred feet.

That nostalgia didn’t fuel the move. Operating a restaurant is tough, and Crombie and his partners thought they were stuck in a rut at the original space. They weren’t making money and their lease was about to expire. Crombie feared if they renewed their lease, say for three years, they’d find themselves in the same predicament in three years. The choice was either to close or take a chance and move. Meanwhile, Renaldi’s was caught in limbo after 50 years. Though closed since September, cryptic signs left in the window left hope that a reopening was possible. That never happened and Crombie says he made an offer around Thanksgiving in November.

Jarsa Kabob looks to be opening a second location at Foster and Milwaukee in the former Kings Gyros #2 spot. This was Kings Gyros#2 then sold, reopened as Kings, then Speedy Taco was there for a short time. This actually might work as that area is short on middle eastern food since NOK closed 3 years ago at Milwaukee and Elston.

Block Club reports Willow Cafe & Bistro has a soft opening today in the former Cafe Selmarie space.

Café Selmarie’s final day open was April 27. In the dozen or so days since then, Pillman has been busy getting the interior refreshed for Willow, he said.

“Patrons will see a lot of familiar faces from Café Selmarie, because like 90 percent of the staff came on board with us. That’s one of the most important things for me,” he said. “We couldn’t have opened up so quickly without them agreeing to come with us.”

Willow will retain a similar layout to Café Selmarie but with a fresh coat of paint, new countertops, tables and seats, he said.

Not open yet, but a promised summer opening for ZeyZey Mediterranearn Grill at the corner of Dempster and Dodge in Evanston. It'll be attached to Zeymart, a second location of an Arlington Heights Turkish grocery, where we made a surveillance trip this afternoon.
    Image

It was a little tough to figure out what to get, because most of the packages are entirely in Turkish.

One area that wasn’t in Turkish was the Frito-Lay display, which was next to the rug section.

From Big Ed's BBQ FB Page
So a few years ago we purchased some land and our plan was to build our future home. Our lease is up in August of this year so when we submitted our paperwork for permits to IDOT in 2022 I thought we had more than enough time build this 13,000 square foot restaurant before our lease ends. Boy was I wrong! When it became clear that we were not going to receive our permits we started looking for an alternative location.

I am happy to inform Big Ed Nation that today we closed on the future home of Big Ed’s BBQ. Today we purchased The Milan Banquet Facility located at 651 Lakehurst Blvd. For those who are not familiar with the area where it is, it’s still here in Fountain Square and in walking distance from where we are now. This location is more than 17,000 square feet and it gives up the space we need now and for the future.

Demo is scheduled to begin in July and you know I’ll keep you all posted and take you on this journey with us. We’ve got a lot of new things planned in our current location and definitely scheduled for the new one that we’ll be announcing soon.
