After operating Happy Foods at 6415 N. Central Ave. in Edgebrook for nearly 50 years, Barbara Eastman and her brother Dale are selling the store, which they feel will be in good hands under the new ownership.
“My brother and I have looked forward to retirement for a while,” Eastman said. “It’s an exciting time right now. (The new owner) has a good vision for this store. He’s community oriented. … This is really a good fit for us and the neighborhood.”
Arthur Paris, who is buying the store, owns food markets in Lincoln Park and Oak Park, and has plans to remodel Happy Foods next year, Eastman said.
The team behind Maison Marcel is opening a French-inspired fine-dining restaurant called le Petit Marcel.
The new restaurant is at 2916 N. Broadway, a few blocks away from Maison Marcel. The team behind the French bakery soft-launched the new venture with a supper club event in May.

Block Club Chicago is pretty good; but even it is not perfect.
Read this Streetsblog Chicago article before blaming anything on protected bike lanes. A salient quote read, "It's 3 businesses complaining, and they'll still have street parking on the other side of the street."
I'm confused - there's also Slyce Coal Fired company owned stores in Highwood, Wauconda, and Mellody Farms plus a franchise in Rosemont. And there's Slyce NY in Skokie and Lombard. Two separate companies with essentially the same name? Or is Slyce NY a franchise too?polster wrote:Slyce of NY (Pizza) has opened in Skokie. There looks to be other locations of this restaurant including Lombard!

Yeh thanks for the clarification.. I admit I also saw the same named restaurant when I posted about the Skokie location and thought it was all part of the same chain. The Slyce of NY restaurant is more of a fast food place with some Southeast Asian based offerings like Chicken Tikka Masala pizza and Rice Bowls.

Farther south the Lincoln Ice Cream Company will close October 15 because they don't think their business will be viable after the streetscaping in part because unloading supplies will have to be done on the other side of Lincoln.

Frankly, I think Lincoln Square Ice Cream Co.'s downfall was their mediocre product. They served Hershey's ice cream, which is just not that good. We went there a few times - the owners are lovely people, and it was in walking distance - but I prefer Amy's Candy Bar or Cookie Spin (both serve Chocolate Shoppe ice cream) or Teddy's (not sure what they serve, but it's good).

Teddy's serves Ashby’s ice cream which I think is extremely mediocre. It's probably on par with Hershey's.
When it closes up shop on Sunday, Oct. 20, Clucker’s Charcoal Chicken will become the latest departure from Wilmette shopping center Plaza del Lago, 1515 Sheridan Road.
