Ah, a sandwich only Homer Simpson could love.

Krusty: (in a limo) Listen, about the Ribwich. We won't be making them anymore. The animal we made them from is now extinct.
    Homer: The pig?
    Otto: The cow?
Krusty: You're way off. Think smaller...think more legs.
    Crowd: Ewww!

It's a shame fast food nation was such a poor film, since McD's putting out tripe (my apologies to tripe) like this illustrates where art could make a killing on the imitations imposed upon it by real life.

I too must confess that the McRib is a Guilty Pleasure for me. I know it's horrible processed meat type product and is not in the same universe as Honey1, but something about them draws me in. Those and the bratwurst they used to have are pretty much the only thing I'll eat at the Golden Arches.

I think it's a childhood memory type thing like White Castle sliders In my experience, if you didn't grow up eating them, you can't stand them. YMMV,IMHO of course.
I used to think the brain was the most important part of the body. Then I realized who was telling me that.

Honestly, I'd take a McTripe or McChitlin over that thing any day... that looks more like the chit they take out of the chitlins if ya ask me... (not sure anyone did, but anyway... )

Funny thing however, is that I never touched a Slider till I moved to Chicago for the first time in 2001 and I think I kinda love those things, nasty as they are.

    HI,

My Mother is a big McRib fan. She had one just this evening ordering it with extra onions. They did not give her enough onions for her taste. I returned asking for more onions and got half a sundae cup full. I'm sure they were joking, though she was quite delighted.

While I did not join her for the McRib, I had a Filet-O-Fish with extra sauce plus a small order of fries. I dip my fries in the extra sauce. As much as I love the Filet-O-Fish, I am not very enthusiastic about the double-decker Filet-O-Fish available during Lent. The extra fish patty throws off the taste harmony of the single filet, cheese, tartare sauce and bun.

FYI - McRib is a permanent menu item in Germany.

As nasty as McRibs are, I'm oddly drawn to them. But since McDonalds changed their overall preparation process, both last year's version and this year's version are not cooked well enough for me.

And I agree that hte double-Filet, as well as their earlier attempt to make a bigger Filet, does not work. I like the little bit of fish that doesn't overpower the tarter sauce.

When McDonald's went for a line of adult-appealing sandwiches in the early 90's, a large fish filet sandwich was offered. Unfortunately, they also discontinued the Filet-O-Fish with nicely sour tasting tartare sauce. It might have been a more tolerable switch if they hadn't changed tartare sauce, too. I was very delighted when the Filet-O-Fish was back in action in its original form.

Hmm. To each their own. I prefer my McRib sandwich with no onions :-)

I had one yesterday too. Headed to Weiner and Still Champion, for my
regular pre-Bears order of corndogs (2 or 3) plus fries to go, to be eaten
while watching Da Bears demolish whoever they play. But, for some
reason, WASC was closed yesterday at 11:30ish (anyone know why,
BTW?) So on the way back I stopped by the MickieD's and picked up
a McRib and McChicken to go instead. (Maybe that change in routine is
why Da Bears didnt go on a scoring spree - a couple weeks ago, I
hurried home and ran to the TV with my corndogs-and-fries, and Da
Bears promptly went up 41-0 about by the time I finished my little
    snack :-)

For 3 bucks, it isnt a half-bad snack, really. The McRib has been better in
the past - I dont mind the sauce, and they undersauced it this time. But I
hadnt had the McChicken in a while, and had forgotten it could be pretty
damn decent, really (get them to cook it extra-crispy, you cant find a
better sandwich for a dollar anywhere in town, IMHO :-)

I tried my first McRib the last time they were around and I was really excited because I generally like McD's. Let me tell you, it was just OK. If you are looking for a tastier version based on the same idea try the On-Cor Riblets. I think they taste better.

Add my voice to the chorus of yeas. Mind you, I can't abide most Mickey D offerings but one or two McRibs, spaced throughout the year, fondles my inner child. I actually set up a lunch date with a co-worker to buy a coupla' McRibs this coming Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving, and race down to Cal's Liquors/Bar and have'em with a couple of cold ones. Mmmmm....McRibs and beer. Let's see if it happens...

With the caveats that all criticisms of said sandwich are absolutely valid, and that it undoubtedly holds a special and prominent place in our own BBQ guru's personal hell, isn't a good eating forum going out of its way to pick on the McRib kind of like the nation's art curators going out of their way to savage Dogs Playing Poker? ;-)

That said, keep up the good fight, Gary... and when I indulge in this guilty pleasure, I pledge to never refer to it as barbecue... or pork, for that matter :-)

I've eaten exactly one McRib sandwich in my life (the Simpsons episode had just premiered, so I wanted to taste the thing). I went with my roommate at the time to the old McDonalds on 53rd between Kimbark and Kenwood. Needless to say, the McRib came up as fast as it went down.

Today, I had to catch a flight at O'Hare in a hurry and ended up eating a McGriddles ("a McGriddles?" As if the CamelCase weren't bad enough, the number ambiguity is mind-boggling. How would you order two? "Two McGriddleses?") with bacon and cheese. Never again.
