Mango was a 10 tonite. Green Apple was very strong as well. Love seeing some new/old flavors.

Hey, I think this is where I used to go when I worked on Canal street. A few doors east of the best mole I ever had....at a Pepe's (different from the mole at every other Pepe's I've tried).

Do they still have black raspberry flavor? That was my one and only go-to, and I might even consider a trip there (when in the neighborhood) if they do.

Mario's is on Taylor across from the original and therefore only Al's Beef (let no one tell you different). They do have blue raspberry, not black though and as a pro tip, you could do better flavor wise, as nearly all use fresh fruit except a couple, in which blue raspberry is included. For a primer, here's something I wrote yrs back.

I'm pretty sure when I went in the 1980s they had black raspberry. Maybe I'm getting confused with the prepackaged cups sold at Jerry's in the...1990s? early 2000s? But it was my achilles heel wherever it was.

My first visit to Mario's this year was tonight. I ordered the peach after grilling the girl if the peaches were really ripe. In the past I got some hard peach pieces and wished to avoid repeating the experience.

This peach was best I have had at Mario's. The flavor was deliciously peachy. I wished I ordered a large instead of a medium.

The grapefruit is superb as well. Have a few jumbos in the freezer for xmas cocktail mixer (a decades long habit.) Really have to give Mario the Younger his props for being so ambitous this yr. Green apple, lychee, an amazing mango...

I saw the lychee and mango, but went with the peach because it might be the only. I so impressed by the enhanced flavor.

I never bought any to store, though your idea is inspiring. It would be a nice bit of summer in December to serve.

    Thanks for the idea.

I tried lychee, a flavor I hadn't had before. I enjoyed it, but didn't think it was one of their better ones (and it had no chunks of fruit).

    Hi,

    Has Mario's ever had a brick-and-mortar location?

There is a guy who claims to have obtained Mario's Italian ice in October. He made a distinction from the wooden shack we have all encountered.

When I asked about this location, he could not remember the address since this was 40 years ago or more. Certainly not in my wayback machine index, so what about any one else?

As per Maria: "Yes, we used to stay open until October, many years ago. However, in 1984, (the year Skip’s dad passed away) we began closing for the season on Sept.15th (the date his dad passed) to honor his father."

Very few people realized that "collectable" POGs, a '90s fad, was based on a fruit juice company's bottle caps.

The timing is fine - especially when you contemplate that the opening event for Illinois Craft Beer Week @ Union Station is on Friday, 13 May, and that, if people do not want to submit to 'hostage pricing'; the elevated 'Chicago' experience of an italian beef @ Al's Beef (original), and a lemonade from Mario's italian lemonade across Taylor St. from it, is in full application. After finishing your italian lemonade from Mario's, walk back to Taylor and Racine, where you will have the option of either CTA route #157 Taylor EB, or #60 Blue Island NB - to get back to Union Station in time for Beer Under {in a} Glass.
Do not spend more than you truly need in order to enjoy these beer festivals. Especially if something like this is manageable. :)
