Ok, since it's been dropped in my lap, I say we do Dickson's graceful parabola. I chose this based on the highly scientific method of flipping a coin.

This Saturday we start at 10:45am at Tore's. In order we got to:

Tore's Italian Beef (opens 10:30 am)
    2804 N. Western Avenue
    773-227-7595

Dino and Nick's Pizza and Beef (opens 10am)
    2035 N. Pulaski
    773-278-3370

Roma's Italian Beef and Sausage (opens 10am)
    4237 N. Cicero
    773-725-5715

    Quick Bite (opens 11 am)
    5155 N. Western
    773-989-4918

    Max's Italian Beef
    5754 Western Avenue
    773-989-8200

That's it. Beefathon III will be this Saturday rain or shine or snow. Current weather report (for what it's worth) says, partly cloudy, temp in 30's, 10% chance of precip).

May the beef be with you.
Where there’s smoke, there may be salmon.

    George,

I appreciate your posting this final itinerary. There were so many twists and turns in the planning of this third and (no doubt) most excellent beef tour, that I was afraid some of the less attentive (myself included) might be out of sync with the current thinking.

PS. More beef tours like this, and there should be plenty of laps compendious enough to accomodate having this request dropped in.

Will there be anyone coming with space in a car for me? I can get myself to Tore's at 10:45, but I may likely be car-less. (My tiny little corolla doesn't do too well in deep snow).

I can get myself home from Max's (the last stop), but if anyone will be returning passengers to Tore's, that would be great too.

    Best,
    EC

I just kinda assume someone will have space for me...

I shall bring the van, and Flip in it. This means I can easily handle up to 3 more people, and if it looks like more than that, I will put in the middle seat. Rob, do you want us to pick you up, since you are sort of on the way?

Just let me know how many people want to ride - I have EC, Rob & Flip, so far.

My cell is 630-399-9172, if anyone needs to call me.

I will also bring the new and revised score sheets (no dry sammies). I will bring about 100 sheets, I guess, since we ran out last time. Please bring your own pens.

Does anyone object if I clean up this thread? As per David H's comments, it is rather full of junk...

    I'm drooling.

edited - I removed most of the schedule to and fro crud.

I think we have the following attendees:

    Kman
    SteveZ
    VI
    Flip
    HattyN + 2
    DavidH
    George
    EC
    Evan Druce

Not sure about franabana & sybarite, but any and all are more than welcome to join us for some or all. On the face of it, this may be the largest turnout of the three (though I am not expecting the Beef to be quite up to the level of Beefathons I & II).

Looking at this list, I think the only ones who will have attended all three tastings are VI, DavidH, George and me. Perhaps we should create a new chivalrous order to honor this achievement?

I am still "IN". Unless the weather changes dramatically for the better (not in the projections) I'll be driving the Volvo X-country and will have room for passengers (were it summer it would be a 2-seater with room for passenger, singular). I've had PM's with Sybarite (and I'll send another to confirm) as a pickup/dropoff for the gala, am willing to do the same for others in my nearby vicinity (I live just west of Lincoln Square). PM me if you are relatively local (basically somewhere northside)and want a ride and we can plan it out.

Having been away for the holidays it occurs to me that, if I can maintain a "beef fast", Saturday will be my first Italian beef(s) of the new year. MMMMMMMMM. :)

I expect to be driving my van, so I will also have space for passengers. After Max's I expect to be returning to Evanston.

I've already broken my "beef fast" for this year, but Saturday will be the first decent beef of 2005 for me. I still don't know of any good Italian beef in Evanston.

I cannot speak from personal experience but in another thread I mentioned Philly's Best and Panino's,both in Evanston, have Italian beef.I found out about Panino's in a very old thread at chi.eats so not sure if the info is still applicable.

I had an Italian Beef at Panino's two days ago. Ever bitten into a dipped Italian Beef and your first thought was "this sandwich needs salt?"

Haven't tried Philly's Best. Obviously they specialize in Philly Steak. The best Italian Beef sandwiches are usually found at places specializing in Italian Beef or at least at good Chicago hot dog stands. I'm not saying it can't happen, but I'd be more inclined to try the Philly Cheese Steak at Philly's Best.

The only occasions I recall having Italian beef are something supposedly Italian beef that was in a plastic bucket when we were kids and from Buona Beef as an adult.Se right about now anything else looks good.

That stuff that was in the plastic bucket was called Gaucho Beef. The company was in chicago since 1947.

Was Gaucho the brand or was it the type of product? It was almost enough to turn me into a vegetarian.

It's the name of the company. I haven't seen it around since I was a kid , but then, I haven't been looking for it either. It was a product that was frozen and fast for mom to put together for lunch. As kids we loved it.

    D,

Was hoping to attend, but, as it turns out, I will be in East Dubuque, IL visiting my newly retired brother in-law and his bride.

    The joy, the joy,

    Looking forward to beef tales.

Knowing I was unlikely to get to the event of the year, when we stopped last night at Booby's for dinner I tried the Italian beef.So so IMO.Got it dry.No salt or spice taste.IIRC $4.83 including tax for just the sandwich.Picked up the free TV Facts on the way out which had a coupon for $3.99 Italian Beef with fries at J.T.'s Place in the same neighborhood.Good until 2/11/05.

There's just some things you know are wrong the moment you do it. I'm sure you felt that way as soon as you placed the order.
