Pie Lady, of course it's not just you. It's time for the rest of us to come out of the proverbial savory-lovers only closet. Now off for the new habit of Hendrickx Belgian Bread croissants, chocolate croissants, & waffles for the rest of the household, for breakfast with our roasted coffee and my preserves.

Well, I can now confirm - after four days, the pies hold up extremely well without freezing. The Coconut Custard was still silky smooth and rich, and the flavors in the Pumpkin pie were still vibrant and delicious. The crusts were not quite as flaky as when fresh, but still held up nicely.

The Lemon Chess, of course, was gone by Monday morning. If I don't get my Christmas order in on time, I might need two pies to hold me over next time...

They were down to Cranberry Chess only for walk-ins when I got there around 11:30 am this morning.

Apparently, you can still get a pie but you had to show up 1st thing this morning and get a space in line, a warm-up for the Black Friday enthusiast. They said the line ran east to the corner prior to them opening up.

So if you miss your Christmas ordering window just plan on getting there extra early.

I don't know, but I don't think so, give them a ring but I got the impression they weren't going to be open today.

They said on Twitter that they will start taking Christmas orders this coming Tuesday (11/29)

I waited in line for a pie on Wednesday and left because they ran out of pies. Came back on Thursday and was successful in procuring a pie for my family! The HMPC team was fantastic: had a separate line/register for people picking up orders, were updating the line on which pies were still available, brought coffee and pie crust cookies (!!!) to the line, etc. I was impressed.

I got a ginger custard pie from Hoosier Mama this weekend. In the past there has been little or no ginger flavor to the custard with good sized hunks of carmelized ginger distributed through out. The most recent pie had a strong stronger ginger flavor to the custard and some much smaller pies of ginger here and there in the pie. I much prefer the new formulation. It really tasted like a ginger pie!

My gf picked me up some pies from here for my birthday - ginger custard and Key lime. Why are these pies so godlike? I am glad hoosier mama is far away otherwise I would have serious internal will power battles.

Hit up Hoosier Mama Yesterday on the way home from Chinatown. Passionfruit Meringue is my new favorite over lemon chess, it is ridiculous. I think their meringue is the most perfect execution of meringue I have ever tasted.

Hi -- Was looking for some help as I choose a pie flavor for a pie I'm ordering. Everyone in the group is open to a variety of flavors, so that's not an issue. I was thinking lemon chess or sour cream dutch apple, but I've not had either. Can anyone weigh in on either of these flavors? Thanks!!

Just my opinion but I don't buy the apple anymore. I don't like chunks of apple. I'd rather they slice them. I'll be getting two pecan pies for Thansgiving next year.

Lemon chess is my personal favorite, but most people are blown away by the coconut custard. I prefer the Sour Cream Dutch Apple to their regular apple, but don't settle on what they have online; usually, there's 1-2 fruit pies available that aren't listed on the website.

Thanks for the responses; lemon chess it shall be!

Also, I should add that I recently tried two more flavors at Hoosier Mama: The ginger custard made me go "Wow!" I had no idea it would be so good. The flavor is mild but present (I'm not a huge ginger fan, and I worried this would be like sucking on a ginger candy or something--but not at all), and the pie is silky and smooth and custardy with a light and absolutely delicious sprinkling of candied ginger on top. A hit for sure--and refreshing! I also recently tried the espresso cream. I didn't love the taste of the espresso part, and I also didn't find the espresso flavor to be deep enough (like a cup of coffee whose taste wasn't so great but also not strong enough, if that makes sense).

Nonetheless, Hoosier Mama is ever the winner in my book, and I find it fun to try to new flavors here and there, and to keep returning for old favorites.

Different strokes I suppose. The apple pie from Hoosier Mama served at the recent GNR dinner might have been the very best apple pie I've ever had - great crust, just tender enough apple chunks, just enough (and not too much) five-spice powder and the perfect thickness of the syrup.

I can think of more desireable pie fillings than Apple to seek out in May, even though I think Hoosier Mama puts out some heavenly stuff. In fact, I've enjoyed every pie I've ever had from them with the exception of the Mince Meat, which I just did not care for. Other than that, it's hard to go wrong at Hoosier Mama. . . probably not even with apple in May.

That was the least successful host gift I ever gave. ;-)

Be on the lookout for blueberry - far and away my favorite pie at Hoosier Mama. Guessing blueberries won't be coming around until early July (she sources from Michigan, I think). There's also a very small window of blueberry/apricot pie, which is on the short list of the best things I've ever eaten.

LOL, if it's the thought that counts, you still get an 11 for that host gift! :)

Ditto. And if there's good pie to be found on Oahu, I have yet to discover it. Even the best renditions of local favorites like chocolate haupia pie or custard pie have had substandard to average at best crusts from what I've tasted so far.

There also was cherry-rhubarb and plain rhubarb which was most excellent. Tart yet cloyingly sweet on some bites. Still my favorite pies and crust in the city. Outside of the biscuits, I don't get bang bang.
