The shop is still cash only. The television sets inside have been turned off. (I wonder if it still (subscribing to | paying for) XFinity cable?) Be wary of the 'health' pamphlet at the south end of the counter. It is from Scientology. :!: :?:

Red Hot Ranch on Damen was burglarized on Aug. 29. https://wgntv.com/news/chicago-news/pol ... moke-shop/

Just as soon as there actually is a Red Hot Ranch on Damen. Right now there is one on Ashland south of Belmont and on Armitage just west of Western. The burglary was at the Ashland location.

Ditto, but can we talk about that cherry bomb hot sauce as well? I purchased that over a year ago at the Andersonville Farmer's Market and have since run out. Is that on hand or did you bring it yourself?

It doesn't look like the table pics were taken at RHR . . . unless Gary brought his own tablecloth! I know he can be somewhat fussy but that seems a bit much . . .

Yes, for sure, fussy is my middle name! :) And yes, those pics were taken at my kitchen table.

Milwaukee Public Market, don't know which vendor though. We were in Milwaukee last weekend, went to the MPM with a niece, the bride picked up the Cherry Bomb thinking it was something I'd like, and she was right.

It’s from River Valley Farm, the ‘shroom folks. I’m sure you can get it at their stores or by mail from the website: https://rvrmarket.com/products/river-valley-ranch-cherry-bomb-hot-sauce-16-oz

Bushel & Pecks also does a cherry bomb hot sauce.

Understandable, but a bit bittersweet. I've gone to Redhot Ranch almost exclusively after 1-2am all but twice -- those two times being January 1st for a hangover fried shrimp & burger order.

Hehe - I know I've been there at least a few times when I wasn't drunk or hungover but ironically, I can't remember exactly when they were!

Having dependable RHR open well past midnight used to serve me well. I am sure to be annoyed by this when it's 1 or 2am in the near future even though I don't usually eat that late anymore. What about the third location? 35th Street Red Hots. Eh, who cares, I am never around Bridgeport that late. :P (Looks like 35th Street Red Hots is only open until 8pm weekdays, 6pm on Saturday and closed Sundays.)

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm sure there will come a time when I miss it being open later than most bars I frequent but that hasn't been an issue for a few years and I'm not sure it'll have much of an impact on me. But it was nice knowing it was an option and even better being able to recommend it to someone who needed a late-night munch and didn't already know about it.

    HI,

Jim's Original has long been a 24-hour operation. Their landlord the University of Illinois Chicago (and perhaps influenced by the city, too) demanded they close early to reduce potential violence.

It may be RHR is in the same boat with external forces pressing them to close earlier.

    Regards,

unexpected afternoon logistics landed us at Redhot Ranch on Ashland for a late lunch (Armitage is our neighborhood), and we were excited to recall the cod sandwich. add pickles and it is very pleasing! shrimp as great as ever. fries were beautifully hand cut as always though underdone and unsalted, which was surprising given that it was 3pm and not crowded...but this place is such a gem. journey to the cod, westsiders!

This past Monday marks the 1 yr anniversary of moving to Bucktown from Edgewater. Over this time, I've eaten quite a few burgers in the new hood including, Owen&Engine (soon-to-be RIP), Leavitt St Tavern, Gretel, The Stopalong, Royal Grocer, Table Donkey and Stick, Small Cheval, and RHR.

All have been enjoyable, some more than others.

Last night, I stopped by RHR for the usual double cheeseburger (almost always with pickles, onions, and mustard). Whoever was on the grill turned out one the best 3 versions I've ever had at either RHR Bucktown or Ashland locations. To match, the fries were perfect as well. Towards the end of the meal, it occurred to me that this was the most personally-satisfying burger meal I had eaten in the last year, not just in the hood but anywhere (including The Loyalist and POPL in Copenhagen). I'm not claiming it is the best burger in Bucktown or the city, but rather how much I find myself not only enjoying the burger/fries as I am eating them, but thinking about how much I am enjoying each bite.
