I recall being completely freaked out upon my first visit to the step-relatives in Ohio when I was six. They ordered Little Caesar's and it arrived as a rectangle cut into squares. Like who the F does that? I have mellowed over the years and always grab a center slice when presented with that sad ass excuse for a pie. Given many iterations, some good. It took me a long time to acclimate myself to the Chicago varieties. Growing up in Houston we had great NY slice homespun shops and the franchises(a few no longer extant) of course. Upon further research, how is this not focaccia? And, Brick cheese needs to be banned from anywhere other than elderly folks communities in the Midwest. Why not just melt red wax gouda, or American cheese, or Velveeta on your pizza? Why not pot cheese? F'ing elderly. Why not cottage cheese? Brick cheese, cheese curds, low sodium mozz; a sheet pan pizza is all well and good, but wtf? I DO like the idea that the idiom began using parts trays from the mills.

They still do rectangle pan pizzas. They just don't market them as heavily as their "Hot and Ready" stuff.

Isn't that (all three at once) what they do in St. Louis?

Note: I feel pretty safe in making this joke, since experience shows that people tend to react calmly and rationally to gentle mockery of regional pizza styles.

I'm not knocking it, although I wouldn't order it if other styles are available. Brick cheese, pot cheese, young waxed gouda, like medium cheddar, have their place. Hell, Velveeta is the quintessential ingredient with RoTel in a classic Tex Mex queso. I live in Little Dominica(Inwood, NYC) where a plethora of industrial bolognas and divers varieties of "Edam,"exist. To my palate it is all pabulum, however, with enough mofungo anything is possible. Dominican pizza, Dominican sushi, etc. And, I love Detroit, square pizza? Meh. And, yes, I know the cutting with the scissors ala Italia and that franchise. What was/is that one pizza place on Division in Wicker Park that did the Roman-style pizzas? Especially, the potato one?

Thank you, Pizza Metro. I'd walk by the guys passed out by their grocery carts full of empty beer cases to get the then best potato slice in Chicago.

Reportedly, the franchise owner passed away suddenly and his wife (ex-wife?) didn't want to take over the business.

Ouch. Goes to show the importance of continuity/succession plan...

The first time I saw Jet's Pizza's sad, uninspired mascot/logo years ago, I vowed I would never have anything to do with their product. Then, last night at work, a fellow employee decided to order one in for dinner. I rebuffed her initial invitation to get in on the order, but a sudden influx of work prevented me from going out to get my own food, so I reluctantly agreed.

She ordered a "Eugene Supreme", which included Sausage, Onions, Bell Peppers, and Banana Peppers. Not my ideal ingredient combo, but there was enough overlap with my usual picks, and the pie was already ordered, so there you go.

At first look the pizza had beautiful eye appeal. Nice caramelized crust, balanced distribution of toppings, and edge pieces for everyone thanks to the rectangular baking pans. My first bite reinforced all the visual cues. The flavors were outstanding! Every ingredient distinct, yet working together for an overall satisfying taste. Excellent chew on the dense, yet light crust, and the lightly caramelized cheese around the edges provided additional texture and flavor notes.

Bottom line; this was a damn fine pizza, and I'm sorry it took me so long to try it.

Also, I did a little research on this thread before posting. It would appear some locations are more likely to serve a great pie than others. I work near Addison & Western, so I'm guessing we ordered from the 3951 N. Kimball Ave. location.

    Who'da thunk it...I love Jet's Pizza!

Pro-tip, which perhaps is already widely known. Text your order and get 20% discount.

Excellent tip. While I enjoy Jets Pizza, I do find that it is pretty pricey. The 20% helps bring it to a more reasonable price point.

I had Jet's Pizza three times last week while I was in Cincinnati. Yes, I do think that is really very good and th4 crust is excellent.

I did NOT find it to be expensive. Two slices and a 20oz Pepsi product for $5.50 is a screaming good deal compared to other fast food options out there.

And unlike many restaurants in the Cincinnati area the past two months, the place was actually open the hours posted.

I suspect thetrob was referring to the bigger pies, which are not inexpensive but still competitive. 20% def helps!! Also, the 5.50 deal is now 8.49--still well worth it!!

Anything still open that serves a meal for under $10 is welcome. I work near the Willis Tower and you can't walk out of their food court with anything for under $15 (and closer to $20).

A beef hot dipped at Luke's is just $9 including tax. Sure it doesn't include a side or drink, but it definitely qualifies as a meal.

In Cincinnati, it is still $5.50.

Most of the local places in that area of Cincinnati are charging $9.99 for a small pizza and a soda. The advantage of the other places is that they do have seating. The Jets location does not.

I was referring to the "full" pies. For example, a 4-corner pizza with just pepperoni @ the Jets near me is around $16, pre-tax. Comparably, I can get a small pizza at any number of places nearby for around $11, and a small deep dish for around $15. Maybe it's just me, but 2 pieces just isn't gonna satisfy me, though I guess for lunch it's OK.

Don't misunderstand, I enjoy Jets pizza. I think it is competitive with the local pizza places in terms of quality and taste and definitely an occasional option, and yes the 20% helps.
