c8w,
thanks for the Paradise. it was good, and cricket was still on as of 2 wks ago...

having kadai goat for lunch really got me going for the rest of the afternoon. it was really like gastro-viagra. and the decency of chicken biryani in the middle of nowhere in Hoffman Estates surprised the heck out of me. only weirdness: it was the second day in a week? i saw so much neon utilized in the decor of a NW burbie restaurant. very 80s. very burbs.

While in Schaumburg's Town Square today, I noticed a sign up at the old Sabor location.

Meeting a dear friend currently living in Rockford for a Sunday brunch in Schaumburg. Where should we go? We’ll likely be a group of 6. All open and up for anything.

Egg Harbor Cafe
Wildberry Pancake & Cafe

Yu's Mandarin is my favorite restaurant in Schaumburg. This is not a brunch restaurant.

So, date got pushed back and Sunday brunch morphed into Saturday lunch. My friend chose the restaurant based on two prior pleasant visits.

We dined at The Local Kitchen & Tap. Arrived at 11:30 and were the first customers. When we left at 2:15 (hadn’t seen each other in person since pre-COVID), there were several groups inside and out.

I was very happy with this choice. Service was super friendly and efficient. The restaurant was notably pristine- very clean, including bathrooms. I love dark leafy greens and the kale Caesar with an add-on of freshly grilled salmon made a perfect lunch for me. Could be wrong, but the dressing tasted house-made to me. Very bright and lemony. My friend got the avocado toast with 2 over-medium eggs which was just to her liking. They didn’t seem to mind at all how long we lingered in our comfortable booth.

Yesterday, we had an advance wedding reception tasting at Tokio Pub, an LEYE establishment that I believe shares a part of a kitchen with Shaw's, which is adjacent.

Traditional Japanese fare it is not. Between appetizers, salads, soups & entrees, we sampled maybe 25 items. A couple of meh's, many good, with these standouts: ramen burger--great ground beef with pan-fried ramen as the bun. It's a signature dish of theirs and excellent. Mango avocado salad, with a lemony viniagrette. Chicken fingers--pounded cutlets with a agedashi breading, served with a citrus-based aioli. Maybe the best entree was tenderly-broiled miso salmon atop perfectly-steamed broccolini and shiitake mushroom.

And the Lucky Cat cocktail, which is a not-in-your-face old fashioned, again with a little citrus, agave nectar & simple syrup to offset the whiskey. As father of the bride, I'll be hitting a couple of those at the reception!

Food and Wine had this article that may (or may not) be helpful about Schaumburg recently:

I'm a bit baffled by the inclusion of a Fulton Market restaurant in the list below the article (not to mention the misspelling of "Schomburg" earlier in the article), perhaps a byproduct of hiring a NYC writer to write a piece about Schaumburg, but it does have some other history and recommendations that may be of interest.

Our family used to be regular Pita Inn folk. I love the kibbah, wonderful fried dumpling filled with delicious ground beef and with the hot sauce it is a savory delight.

For middle eastern, NOW OUR FAMILY goes to MazMez in Elk Grove Village.
Check it out if in the hood, you will not be disappointed (except they don't have kibbah) and will probably become a regular destination. I'm a hot sauce guy, but folks are crazy for their garlic sauce. They got great lunch specials. The falafel is top notch, the rice is the BEST. Everything made fresh, a very good value, and good folks.

It is a food tragedy this place it has not made it to LTH folk.

Blessings!
