VG old world style located in one of the two old Italian Chicago neighborhoods-- hence the name.

It's been several months since I ate there, and I don't call it destination dining -- I found the menu rather uninspiring overall -- but if you're in the Wheeling area, the Vesuvio at Lettuce Entertain You's new Italian place, Saranello's, was quite classic and very good.

While I am hoping for a recommendation for Chicken Vesuvio in the western suburbs. It never hurts to divulge where a good version can be had anywhere.

This is a dish that is sometimes faked on the menu. If I happen to see chicken breast on a menu, then multiple variations largely depending on sauces. I can pretty much guarantee to be disappointed, because they believe the sauce is boss.

If I order a Grecian or Chicken Vesuvio and the menu cautions an extended waiting period. I am likely to be happy. Not guaranteed, though more likely to be what I expect.

Long time since I posted here, i am glad to see this place is still going. I am in Rosemont without a car and have been craving chicken vesuvio. I have tried a few spots over the last couple of years and have had less than exciting results.

I am hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Will travel along the blue line or take an uber as long as it's less than 20 bucks per way. Would love some suggestions.

I totally agree. Visited a few months ago, and while it isn't the best I've ever had, it is a very good example of the dish.

Victory Italian, where it’s called “Crispy Brick Chicken” on the menu.

thank you, i noticed harry carry and sort of balked at the idea. I went to gibsons and sat at the bar and had their skirt steak which was pretty damn good. Next time I will have to hit up Harry and also look into Victory, never heard of them.

I don't think this has been posted yet but if anyone is interested here is the recipe for Harry Caray's Chicken Vesuvio.

While I haven't had Vesuvio there in a few years, I imagine that Bruna's Ristorante at 2424 S. Oakley does the same bang-up job they've done for the 40 years I've been dining there. Top notch.

Second place in my experience is Harry Caray's/Rosemont, but that was a couple decades ago.

Capri Ristorante in Burr Ridge always had a good version of this dish, but it has been a few years since I've been there.

In that spirit I'll nominate Mirabella in Avondale/Irving Park. They also do Steak Vesuvio and Veal Vesuvio FWIW.

I love the Chicken Vesuvio with Extra garlic at Bacchanalia, 2314 S Oakley. This place is small, cozy, offers great service, and it also does great job with baked clams and veal.

When you order the Chicken Vesuvio, is there a waiting time stated on the menu?

I have more confidence I am getting what I want, whether it is Vesuvio, Greek or lemon chicken, when I am advised of a 30 minute wait.
