Not sure how long it's been around, but saw a new daily special today at Do-Rite: Double Chocolate Cherry Brioche Hibiscus (something, something). The name was ridiculously long, but damn that was a tasty donut. Looked a bit like the regular double chocolate, but the brioche part made it much lighter. The cherry compote in the hole was excellent as well.

While, it's tough to beat the simple execution of one of their old-fashioned buttermilks, this special shot up to #2 on my Do-Rite list.

I wanted a donut so ended up with a dozen. (A little reward for the lucky few in the office today.) The #doritecollab was darn tasty: CJ Jacobson Strawberry Rhubarb filled with honey infused Greek yogurt. I also snagged a bite of the chocolate covered old fashioned. It wasn't a cheap morning, but my belly and coworkers are happy.

Do-Rite Donuts are now at Sunset Foods every morning. Just as good as getting them right from the Chicago Do-Rite shops.

Saw they replaced Glazed and Infused after its demise. Been tempted to pick some up. What's Do-Rite's go to?

I am obsessed with their pistachio lemon donut, but also have lots of love for the chocolate old fashioned and their apple fritters. Their chicken sandwiches are delicious as are the breakfast sandwiches. Just not a fan of their coffee.

Have you noticed that they have started (at least at the main Petterino's location) first dipping them in the glaze/icing they use on their traditional buttermilk donut, then a second dip into the chocolate before adding the last dollop of chocolate icing on top?

I'm not sure when this started, but in a quest to make a richer donut I feel it throws the taste off somewhat.

The Valrhona had been my go to and my favorite, but this has lessened the appeal to me.

Not sure if its system wide yet. I see both M Burger in Thompson Center and Big Shoulders coffee on Lake/Wells now has DoRite in the morning as well

The original Randolph location started skimping on the valrhona earlier this year. Was there a big increase in price from their supplier to justify this?

What do you mean by skimping? The ones I pickup from Sunset are as big as the other offerings and the price is $2.49 each.

By "skimping" I'm referring to the original vahlrhona which used to have the entire top iced with this chocolate, not just a dollop on top of standard chocolate icing as it is now.

Pretty good Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich

For $4 I was pretty satisfied.

    Funny you should ask!

There was an oriental couple, appeared to be tourists. They had one glazed donut.

Very daintily eating using a knife and fork.

At another table a pair of ladies with headscarves had the entire table filled with donuts... Chatting, tasting, just enjoying the afternoon.

Very diverse! Not one gringo in the group.

    It was probably this post.

Now, please, back to the establishment at hand.

I do enjoy their chocolate old fashioned. Less sweet than most of the newer donut bakeries, like Stan's.

Also enjoy their Dark Matter Coffee, which I'm guessing is their 'A Love Supreme', my favorite of their blends. I really want to love DM coffee, my local roaster a couple blocks from my house, but everything other than A Love Supreme is roasted darker than I prefer.

Funny you should mention this! :)

While I was picking up my sandwiches I also decided to give their main focus a try.

I had gotten a Double Chocolate donut (mostly because it was one of the few in the $2 range) and it also gave me the opportunity to try a Vegan product.

Very good! I hardly missed the animal product but was mystified buy a slight crunch throughout the donut.

I might of assumed it could of been a wayward egg shell (but no) so it might of been designed with some textural contrast. Just not expected.

Getting back to me limiting my choices and I know you have to pay for something unique and delicious but when a single donut price was approaching the price of the fully dressed Pork Tenderloin sandwich ( shown above)? The sandwich was not a slider either and was satisfying.

I’ve tried several times to visit the Dark Matter mothership on Western several times in the late afternoon but they’ve always been closed. I’m just never in ’da hood’ at the right time.

My daughter has owned a coffee roasting business for several years and finally has gotten me off of my ‘dark roast’ passion. Always equating a fuller flavor with higher quality (Starbucks).

I have been now enjoying the subtitles of a medium roast. So much so that I have been expanding that love by setting up a coffee cafe at large camping gatherings and amazing others with how great it can be.
