The former Bobtail Ice Cream parlor has been converted to Johnson’s Real Ice Cream. It’s an Ohio company with ties to Bobtail’s owners.

Haven't seen this place mentioned yet. Yummy District has a kiosk in Schaumburg's Woodfield Mall that does Turkish style stretchy ice cream. They usually have 5-6 flavors, and my favorites so far are the pistachio and pear. Deep, rich flavors, and they don't taste artificial. Very friendly owner, and he or his sister is usually there.

Other than I can't imagine stepping foot into Woodfield mall, I would love to try their ice cream.

I feel you. Park near the Macy's, walk through Macy's to get to the first floor, and it's pretty centrally located (diagonal from the Garrett's stand). I find it worth the mall trawl.

If you're not usually in the Schaumburg area, the mall is also within a 10 minute or less drive to some good Japanese restaurants (Torizen, Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai, and Daruma).

Lovin’ Scoop at 4032 N. Milwaukee Ave. opened Friday and sells ice cream cones, milkshakes, sundaes and espresso drinks. Co-owner Billy Taleb partnered with popular gourmet brand Capannari Ice Cream and Catering, a family-owned business based in Mount Prospect, Illinois.

I was out in the suburbs garden center shopping a couple weeks ago and stopped at Kimmer's in St. Charles. They had a flavor I've never seen before, they called it Parent Trap: cookies n cream and peanut butter. It was delicious.

Apparently this is one of 3 west suburban locations.

We celebrated National Ice Cream Day at Dini's in Twin Lakes, WI. They sell a variety of Chocolate Shoppe of Madison ice cream flavors. I had something new to me, Iced Latte Da, caffeinated mocha fudge chocolate chip. Not only was the boost welcome for the drive home from a brief vacation plus all-you-can-eat chicken at Crandalls, the coffee flavor seemed more powerful and authentic than usual. My kid had Zanzibar® Chocolate. The ® perhaps explains why Cedar Crest renamed Zanzibar Chocolate to Midnight Dark Chocolate.

Speaking of "parent" named ice creams, they offered Exhausted Parent - bourbon/espresso/chocolate chip. Also "This $&@! Just Got Serious®" which as a name seems a titch iffy for a family-oriented product, especially when darn near everyone in the shop had to loudly ask what it was (salted caramel cashew.)

My junior Marxist offered a 2 star review for Dini's after watching the owner get a little tough on her young employee. I, on the other hand, figured the young guy was her kid and was less sympathetic. Guess the view always depends on where you're standing...

The Exhausted Parent flavor is one of my favorites! I miss George's shop in Andersonville for Chocolate Shoppe ice cream. (Though there's now a Jeni's and Kilwin's about a block apart.) I'll happily trek out to the Chocolate Shoppe on Devon for the ice cream and whatever their latest decorations are.

Cookie Spin in North Center also sells Chocolate Shoppe ice cream. The ice cream is great by itself but our family typically orders it as part of an over-the-top deep dish cookie sundae or milkshake.

One of my favorite ice cream flavors is Humphry Slocombe's (from San Franciso) "Secret Breakfast." It's cornflakes mixed into a bourbon ice cream.

Also, should anyone find themselves in the London (UK) area this summer, there are lots of new flavors to try:
