I spoke to Tony Hu yesterday and he told me that they are dealing with permit issues and things aren't moving too quickly with the Village of Schaumburg. A lot of stuff has to be retrofitted to bring it up to today's building codes as opposed to those in effect in the 1980's when the original restaurant on that site was built. He didn't sound too optimistic about an opening any time soon saying only that it will definitely open next year.

This would probably be one of my top choices - Asian Bistro is very good, among the better Chinese spots in the city (on quite a few dishes, comparable with Lao Sze Chuan). I dont think any Thai spot is among the best around, in the AH/Schaumburg area (the city has far better Thai options).

Also, L&L is very good - been a couple of times (tho a year or so ago), and liked it a fair bit back then.
    ...

Bearing in mind that this is an old thread, I see that the Asian Bistro chef is of Taiwan descent. Taiwanese cuisine is one of my favorites, yet I don't see any of it on the menu? Of the Sichuan choices, which winners have you come across?

L&L is one of my long time favorites. Glad to see it's still pumping. Any idea what time they open Saturday mornings?

At Asian Bistro I like the following: (http://www.asianbistro.biz/poultry_selections)
ITEM 1019 - La Tsi Chicken is the same as Lao Sze Chuan Dry Chili Chicken.
    ITEM 102 - Orange Beef
ITEM 412 - Bom Bom Chicken
    Don Don noodles

I believe they are opened from 11-11:30 AM

Asian Bistro is one of my favorite places in Arlington Heights. In my opinion, the food here is on par with the best Sichuan food in China town. Echo all those dishes, definitely a fan of the bom bom chicken

    I would also add:

    501 Szechuan Hot Spicy Wonton
    1307 Szechuan String Bean
724 Authentic Twice Cooked Fish Fillet

There's also a great lamb dish with tons of Ma la flavor, I can't remember which one it was, but probably 816 Ma la lamb. It's prepared similar to a boiled beef dish with lots of szechuan peppercorn and chili flavor.

    1312 Yu Shung Eggplant
    112 Smoked Tea Duck

Eggplant and duck are good versions, but not the best I've had.

Agree with all this. I know I keep plugging this place, but I really do love it.

This, very much. All the other recommendations above are also good, but I think this and the pickles should be considered signature dishes.

And when the lamb with cumin is on, it's unbeatable.

Re Taiwanese dishes: I definitely recall beef noodle soup on the menu, but I don't think they have oyster pancakes or anything like that.

I ache for good 3 Cup Chicken and Taiwanese Chicken Roll.

That said, the Twice Cooked Fish and Cumin Lamb, Wontons in Red Oil and Sichuan String Beans will be battling a 35 min slog to Rainbow Thai Thursday night.

But anyway - Sankalp seems to me like its playing on a much higher level than any of these places on Devon. Not that its hugely surprising in a sense - the majority of the South-Indian population in Chicagoland (and a burgeoning one it is too) is mostly concentrated around the Schaumburg area anyway, no longer anywhere close to Devon or the city (and most dont actually come down to Devon very often anymore either, with all the Indian-shopping-needs met by Patel Brothers and all the rest, all of whom now have branches in the Schaumburg area). For its style of cuisine, I dont believe there is any place in Chicagoland near Sankalp's level, at the moment.

Sankalp is now Atithi (at least the Schaumburg location), and the menu has been revised to include additional Northern dishes. Nothing else seems to have changed: Thursday is still Dosa Night, Thursday/Friday lunch buffet, food still rocks, etc.

There has to be another A.H. thread somewhere. This could apply:
    Mt. Prospecty Thread

Jd's Brew and Cue is very decent for what it is, IMO. The sides are usually pretty good, and the q is decent. If nothing on the specials board is exciting, the 1/2 smoked chicken dinner is a great value, imo. The one time I had one, a couple three four weeks ago, it was VERY juicy, very well cooked. Hopefully their QC is on point. It was damn good.

If I was in A.H. Boston Seafood would be on my radar a lot for dining out.

Big Ange's. Awesome sandwiches. If possible, go at a slightly off hour, as it's a small place and is packed during regular dining hours.

My daughter-in-law is quite fond of Gumrai Thai. I think they're more *solid* but less *interesting* than Alt Thai, whatever that means.

On the east edge of AH on Rand Road is Jin 28, which has an all-you-care-to-eat Sushi menu for $19 which is pretty good. Not stellar, and I guess not actually cheap, but it is for Sushi.

It's been a while since I've been but Ttowa Korean Bistro on Wing on the west edge of downtown AH is what I call "Korean you can take your mom to" -- it's presented more western-friendly, while keeping the flavors. Good food (although I liked their long-gone original dumpling-focused concept in Morton Grove better).

Recently was in the area and my cheap 1-2 punch included Hannosuke assorted tempura only $6.98 and Johnnie's beef wet, less than a Lincoln. Not a bad 20 minutes of gluttonous, glorious eating.

I tried Jin 28 yesterday. I got the AYCE sushi for $19. I thought the sushi selection and appearance was excellent.

I had a lot. I’ve eaten sushi for many years, but I don’t consider myself an expert. But I thought it was very good and well worth the price. I was there for lunch and it was empty.

I’ve also tried Big Anges Eatery and Johnnies Beef, both very good.

    Downhill alert.
At some point during the What-Have-You, Jin 28 changed management.
No more AYCE sushi, so we ordered a couple rolls, teriyaki steak (which came with miso soup), ginger salad, and crab rangoon (which was one of our regular items off the AYCE).

The soup, salad and rangoon were all very good, but the steak was cut into huge chunks and hadn't been trimmed well. My sushi roll was great until the last bite, which had a rather fishy piece of skin.

For years it's been our place to overindulge in decent sushi, this is probably our last visit. Sakura Hibachi on Milwaukee in Glenview will probably be our (slightly more expensive) substitute.

Stopped at Big Ange's on the way home from an errand today -- because I saw a parking place. :) (Had actually decided that if I saw an empty spot, I'd stop.) Still as good as ever. Got a half pound of smoked brisket. Love their sandwiches, too (esp. Roko Pollo), but today, the brisket was calling me. So good.

You can always park across the street in the huge empty parking lot.
