Divisive pizza. The flavor on the nduja pie is unimpeachable: smoky, spicy, big. That "grandmother" style dough/crust, tho: soft to the point of pillowy. Described as "cafeteria-style" by one of us.

The burger: excellent. Given that it was ordered as takeout and lukewarm when eaten, I can't objectively compare with/assess against Owen & Engine, but it's definitely in the same league, if not better.

Yeah I would agree with the soft...maybe too soft...description. We had a couple pieces for dinner and generally did really like it. The salad is also very tasty if not a little basic.

But we left it out for a while and after a movie came back to heat up a couple more pieces. We put them in a dry skillet (there enough fat in the crust) on low with a lid on. That crisped the bottom up really nicely while still leaving the interior soft and pillowy. They were dramatically more delicious the 2nd time.

We had two TDS pizzas last night, cheese; and goat cheese, pesto, and roasted vegetables. Outstanding.

Pizza is very good as reported. I'll also suggest people take a look at the wine list. They are among many (Websters Wine Bar, etc.) offering discounts to retail. The difference is that in a normal world many of these bottles don't end up at retail, or at least not much of the wine. And I think they need the extra cash flow now more than most wine shops, although that might not be a universal statement.

Had dinner there last night with a couple of LTH regulars. Starting off, the Collins cocktail had too much hazelnut - kind overpowered the other flavors. The cheese & charcuterie plate was very nice, especially the bread that everyone at our table loved. A baguette that was perfectly baked. They also brought out a multi-grain bread to finish off the charcuterie plate, and it too was perfectly baked. The charcuterie was very good but did not really give me a wow aside from the duck liver mousse. The salumi was very nice, as were the cheeses were as well. Otherwise we did three small plates: the tomato salad, the poached mackerel, and the smoked jaegerwurst. I mostly enjoyed the jaegerwurst: very nice across the board, and I loved the sauteed red cabbage served with it (not listed on the menu). The mackerel was lovely with the eggs, aioli, etc. The tomato salad was also lovely. The dessert was little donut-style fritters stuffed with an apple jam, which we also all enjoyed.

We really loved the patio out back where we sat. There's a nice apple tree in the back, and they used the apples in the apple jam. Spaced perfectly for social distancing. There was also a back room that had an open roof and sides that was also perfectly socially distanced. The service was lovely, especially the gentleman at the host podium. A little on the pricier side but it was definitely worth it.

We will definitely go back. I want to try the burger and the half Amish chicken (we should have also got the latter last night).

Given how long that destruction (sic) has gone on on that section Armitage, it's a wonder something like this didn't happen sooner or hasn't happened with more frequency. I feel very bad for all the businesses in that area that have been disrupted for so long by that ridiculous mess. No one at the city seems to give a flying fuck. As long as the folks working on the project aren't inconvenienced, all is well. Totally pathetic.

    Yep.

The few years that Matt was selling $5 burgers and 50 cent beers on industry/Monday night at little to no profit, he did out of a place of generous hospitality to his industry and his neighbors and a desire to welcome people to his table. Terroir Tuesdays, selling wine that folks can't find by the glass anywhere, by the glass at cost and for again little to no profit to himself, is an extraordinary act of hospitality and generosity. If there's such thing as a Great Neighborhood Restaurant, if that concept exists in reality, TDS is it because of Matt's generosity to his neighborhood. Every nonprofit I know to have asked, he answered yes. Every neighbor who asked for support, as far as I recall from my 3 years working there, he answered yes. A cook needed space for a pop-up: yes. Brewery startup wants to do a dinner: yes.

I'd hope that TDS gets out of this due to overwhelming reciprocal support of the people to whom Matt has given so much.
