The Duck Fat dog is not unlike a knackwurst with a richer fat flavor and some nice pickles on top of a great split top bun. We enjoy them at the very good happy hour at Duck Inn, splitting one with a hamburger sandwich and cheese curds for a fine little dinner.

I gave myself a mid-week treat with a piece of coffee cake from Mindy's Hot Chocolate Bakery at Revival. Their coffee cake is done in a loaf style and is $3.50 for a thick piece. Today's seasonal offering a smoked cherry something with a cocoa nib streusel. The smoked cherry is unusual. This may not be my favorite of the coffee cakes, but it's still yummy.

So...what's the current "must haves" for this place, for two people who were lucky enough to score Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me tickets for next Thursday?

We're already familiar with Aloha Poke and Furious Spoon, and love Smoque so much they catered our wedding. That's not to say we would rule out going to any of those places, but they're not a priority. We have the whole day off, so can spend a fair amount of time curating a smorgasbord of noshes, as long as we're out of there by 6:45-ish.

    It is all good...

I usually get a selection of the big hits; Smoque, Furious, Budlong, Antique, HotChocolate. Bring the leftovers home.

I am actually thinking of breaking away and trying some of the places I haven't tried or it has been a long time.

For instance I've been a fan of Bill Kim and his restaurants ever since before he moved out of Logan Square. Haven't kept up with him since.

He's the new kid on the block.

Union Squared has departed Revival and currently there is the Pizza City USA being featured at that vendor. They will be rotating different local pizza joints here and the selections are curated by Steve Dolinsky. My Pie is the current featured pizza shop and the deep dish personal pies I saw being served looked really good.

It's all about the horchata milkshake at Antique Taco. Only competition in the city is (was?) the dulce de leche milkshake at Big Star.

Got a personal sausage pizza from My Pi today - very reminiscent of Lou Malnati's. Similar sauce and crust, about the same thickness, etc. I preferred Union Squared - I'd hit there at least once every other week. There are not many places in the Loop where you can get a personal pizza or slice...

We ended up getting two tacos from Antique Taco- the pork and the daily special, fried calamari. Both were very good. The hortchata milkshake was as delicious as promised!

We also got the grilled cheese and tomato bisque from The Fat Shallot. They were out of the vanilla malt shake, so we got the chocolate espresso, and were really happy with it.

    Thanks for the recommendations!

Has anyone tried Dante's Pizza which is currently the vendor at the Pizza City USA? Just curious how well it compares to the other Dante's locations. I see that Palermo's 95th will be taking over the spot in December.

Would also appreciate any feedback on the burgers from Mindy's as I haven't been able to try their food either yet.

Can't compare it to the other Dante's , or NY slices from NY, but it's a pretty good slice of pizza, and one of the best deals in the Hall. Sausage slices get a little soggy from the sausage but pepperoni holds up well.

I do miss the Union Hall Detroit-style pizza, though. That's not something I can get anywhere else nearby.

My wife and daughter had a vegan slice a couple weeks ago on a lunch break from Open House Chicago and they thought it was comparable to the location at Augusta and California, nearest to us.

I screwed up and had the very good grilled ham and cheese at Danke, when I couldn't decide between that and the Secret Sandwich. Just had that mind blowing duck liver mousse on Friday at Table, Donkey, & Stick and realized I really screwed up.

    Hamburger Stan

Unlike other booths at Revival they only have a Brick and Mortar location in Denver.

I wonder if the burgers are available at Budlong?

The Budlong kitchens don’t have griddles, so no burgers.

    From the Eater article:

If customers respond well to the Revival location, he’d like to expand Hamburger Stan into a space of its own in Chicago. Ideally, he wants to open a location on Armitage near the Budlong at 1008 W. Armitage Avenue in Lincoln Park as a one-two punch of burger and chicken spots with some shared staff and management.

I wss in our Loop office last Friday, and was able to get a 3pm lunch at Revival. Decided on Furious Spoon, which i had never tried before. Im not a expert, but it was as good as the places I went to in Vancouver last November. Huge portion of pork in the bowl, tasty broth.

If we hadn't picked up Old Fashioned Donuts that morning, I would have stopped at Mindy's for a dessert.

Mindy Segal has two stalls at Revival right now: a pop-up burger stall and a permanent Hot Chocolate bakery stall. The burger stall is the one that's closing to make way for Hamburger Stan; the bakery stall remains.

It's not all bad news for Boonie Foods. This is from the owner:

    Dimo's Pizza is moving in.

Dimo's will be taking over the space being vacated by Boonie Foods, with a target opening date of January 2. The stall will be more of a cafe concept rather than just a slice shop — pizza will still be on the menu, but it will be joined by small bites (olives, Japanese peanuts, focaccia), shareable apps (charcuterie board, croquettas, shishitos with blood orange), and salads (beets and burrata, shaved Brussels sprouts, Caesar). Beer and wine will be served as well.
