I wouldn't bank on the buffet being available at 6pm. I'm fairly certain it's lunch only. Just a heads up

I did check and they have a down time between lunch and dinner.

    I will double check.

    Thanks!

For these monthly visits I am exclusively visiting my favorite places and introducing My Bride and friends that weren’t able to join me at my lunch visits.

Turns out the buffet is only available for lunch.

We pulled up stakes and are moving onto...

Although it seems soon after my last visit, that one was late. :)

Heading back up tomorrow. First stop (no surprise)...

    Macushla Brewing Co.
    1516 E Lake Ave, Glenview

4:45 pm on Tuesday, August 6th

With all of the great Korean up there it is about time to visit. We had a lot of Asian before and had excluded it from recent visits.

After beer we will segue over to...

    Paik's Noodles
    1615 Milwaukee Ave, Glenview

    ... at around 6:00 pm

Not the fanciest nor the most intimate but there were a few dishes that tickled my fancy and I have been craving.

Only a few more months left. I will miss my visits.

Hope to see you there. :)

Sorry for the late notice! Starting in 1 hour...

    My final growler fill.

Monthly Tuesday (9-3) visit with Linda to Glenview

Of course it will start with a visit to...

    At 4:45 pm...
    Macushla Brewing Co.
    1516 E Lake Ave, Glenview

... for a couple of beers, a few appetizers, a growler fill and then we will saunter over to (maybe around 6) ...

    San Soo Kab San
    7901 Golf Rd, Morton Grove

We have been long time fans of this small restaurant empire with visits first to their Chicago location then me discovering this one.

Imagine food on the charcoal grill, sweet smoke wafting, mixing with the Korean beer, soju...

Several seafood options and the plentiful banchan making it a memorable visit.

When I visited it was an awesome trip.

It ‘twas a great visit! Besides the strong beer at the taproom we decided to share some Korean beer and soju.

As if the first two visits wasn’t enough, since this was our last scheduled trip I wanted to have My Bride experience my favorite neighborhood bar along this route.

... with the Souvlaki being very popular amongst the Polish patrons.

Since I had been denied their pierogis on my last few visits (only after 6:30) I had a strong desire for My Bride to give them a try.

    2EDB5F43-ECCC-4FD3-984D-F306F623C960.jpeg

Was able to pump the barmaid for pierogi information and found out that they are from...

    Alexandra's Pierogi
    3300 N Central Ave, Chicago

Which is a good choice! Also the supplier of Dan’s Pierogis the most popular stand at the Whiting Pierogi Fest.

As our evening was winding down, a local gent, Marty, came in and bought the bar a round! He was there on my first visit and he brought a round then too.

When that beer was almost done the Polish gents at the other end of the bar bought a round of shots of Polish liqueur.

    Quite a night! :)

Just hit Paik's Noodles up for the first time, and what I had, I LOVED.
I went with the Spicy JJamppong with pork and squid, and an order of the Hong Kong Wings. Also tried the fried pork dumplings, which I was less enthusiastic about, but the soup noodles and wings were freekin' great.
The soup's broth was an intense red, however, it wasn't too spicy, just a touch above richly warm with spice, but not anywhere near "hot." Nice flavor to it. I really liked it. I think I slurped about 20 spoons of straight broth before even trying anything else, because I liked it so much. The slivers of pork were kinda scarce, but I had a good 5 mussels (in the shell,) and a handful of squid bits too. Very fond of this soup they have here. VERY fond.

The wings - I just thought they were fantastic. Decently spicy, not too sweet. Piping hot, and ultra crispy. Their other wing option was soy/garlic. I'm trying both next time.

Tablemate 1 ordered the beef/shrimp noodle soup and was much less enthralled with their choice. They noted it kinda bland, but decent.

Tabelmate 2 ordered the pork/squid stir fried noodle and absolutely loved it. FWIW, he's an Asian fella.

    As an Aside:
Tous Les Jours Sweet Rice Donut is out of this world. Like a Sesame Ball minus the sesame seeds, and the chewy outer coating has a pancake-ish goodness to it - a step above the regular sesame balls you find in Asian bakeries.

Best lunch I've had in a LONG time.

Had a really nice bowl of seafood soondubu, extra spicy (5/5), today at SGD. Panchan were great, too. I dare say it was better -- and spicier -- than I remembered but maybe it was going a year and a half without soondubu that made it taste even better. :)

This place will never replace the old Cho Jung for me but it really hit the spot today. And the bonus was that I managed to get through my entire bowl without spilling any of it on my shirt!

Next time I'm at Harrision's I know where I am having lunch, Spiro's, that's where!

Get the Bomber. I think it's their one destination item.

    =R=

Mrs Willie grew up with Spiro's and has fond memories, so I've wanted to visit for a long time. As life's coincidences would have it, one of Spiro's owners was sitting in the seat behind mine at a Cubs game this past summer, he and I chatted about Spiro's and he did mention the Bomber.

This past weekend, I was finally in the right time/place to try Spiro's.

The Bomber, on the menu it is described as "Spiro's famous Italian beef, swiss cheese, pickle, onion, and our special sauce"

Usually I do not order a "dressed up" Italian Beef, I'm definitely more of a classic guy. I have to say it was a delicious sandwich, one I will go back for.

Turns out the same guy who was behind me at the Cubs game was there when I went, he was also proud to show off their home made roast beef. Cooked to a perfect rare/MR, and tasty. Based on the quality and flavor of that beef, a roast beef sandwich will be in my future as well.

Was in the area and the timing was right, so I stopped in for a really enjoyable solo lunch . . .

    Image
    Assorted Banchan
Not the greatest selection but the ones they offer are solid. I'm not a huge fan of the corn but the other 4 -- fish cakes, cucumbers, kimchee and daikon -- are all quite tasty. I had seconds on the cukes and cabbage.

    Image
    Seafood Soondubu
Bubbling and steaming, this bowl was really satisfying. The dolsot rice and raw egg were nice touches, too. On a 1-5 spiciness scale, I always order 5, which doesn't seem that spicy to me but it does have a nice kick.

They open at 11. I arrived at about 11:20 and there were plenty of tables. By the time I left at 12:15, it was 90%+ full. Staff still wearing masks. Service was excellent -- intuitive, attentive and friendly.

    Dam Inn
    1000 S Milwaukee Ave, Wheeling

I have always enjoyed this burger. Big, seasoned patty, cooked fresh to order with plenty of cheese and fresh toppings and toasted French bread. Mayonnaise added which isn't a Chicago thing but goes well. Thin fries well cooked.

A dive bar with family connections. My father designed and had the building built. Currently owned buy the daughter of my father's sister's brother. Shirttail to be sure. We do stay in touch so it was good to see Mel (Melanie).

Enjoy the adult novelties and Halloween decorations while you wait. :)

Not a destination nor a spot to stop at for a football game (closed Sundays). I don't think there are any craft beers nor cocktails.

Just a burger and a bottle of Bud. :)

    From a recent Facebook post:
The Dam Inn in Wheeling just closed (Hintz & Milwaukee ave). The place is a 60s time capsule, sorry to see it go... They sold the contents of the property today, I picked-up a couple bar utensils to remember the place...
