I do enjoy Filipino food and having a delicious roasted chicken is a bonus. :)

My contract is up on May 10th and I am visiting some of my favorite places in these last few weeks.

Since I went to Ati-Atihan for huge banquets twice, I'm not ready to go there again, and probably not for less than another boodle kamayan platter. Anyway, this Thursday I'll be downtown at a Goodman Theater matinee.

Probably not Korean either, been to too many and another scheduled this month.

I *would* like to go to La Donita as I have scheduled my group and want to try a few more items. Probably Mazalae just because I like it.

Was there a place you went that I wanted to go to, but had a conflict?

My Glenview dining schedule for these last few weeks (from 12:15 to 1:00)...

    Thursday, April 25th - Chicken Ati-Atihan, 9054 W Golf Rd, Niles
Friday, May 3rd - Tandoori Restaurant, 9344 Ballard Rd, Des Plaines
Friday, May 10th - San Soo Kab San, 7901 Golf Rd, Morton Grove

My boss has mentioned that he would like to take the other contractor and I out for lunch one of these days so that schedule might have an interruption.

I did recommend Yard House, 1880 Tower Dr, Glenview which is a company favorite and I haven't visited. Something like 100 beers on tap? I also heard they have the largest selection of Vegetarian dishes in the area?

In addition to these sit down lunches I will be enjoying some carryout...

Monday, April 29th - Los Huaraches, 3482 Milwaukee Ave, Northbrook
Pita Inn, 9854 N Milwaukee Ave, Des Plaines

Of course I will be at Macushla Brewing, 1516 E Lake Ave, Glenview every Tuesday after work (from 5:15 to 6:00).

    That should about do it.

Holy Crap! I took a look at their website...

80 Yard House locations across the country (including 3 in the Chicago area)!

They are a part of the empire that also brings you...

    Always bittersweet...

My last visit to a great area diner...

    The Greenwood Restaurant
    910 Greenwood Ave, Glenview

Once a month I have a need to grab breakfast on my way into work and this has been my choice.

44E066DE-3CF6-45AB-94CC-1D2DB7151C48.jpeg Grilled Cheese with Ham and Fried Egg

Greasy, nicely browned, melty cheese. I might not prefer to eat it every day but once a month. :) Actually I was inspired to order this after I started making Grilled Cheese with Fried Egg on the back porch. The addition of ham (off the bone?) is awesome.

    A6D8AEC3-DB30-4536-9A23-5BB57B48E152.jpeg

They usually have the soup(s) of the day ready at this early hour and today Split Pea was available (extra croutons please). Soup for breakfast? Why not. :)

    Its been great! :)

I have always enjoyed this burger. Big, seasoned patty, cooked fresh to order with plenty of cheese and fresh toppings and toasted French bread. Mayonnaise added which isn't a Chicago thing but goes well. Thin fries well cooked.

A dive bar with family connections. My father designed and had the building built. Currently owned buy the daughter of my father's sister's brother. Shirttail to be sure. We do stay in touch so it was good to see Mel (Melanie).

Enjoy the adult novelties and Halloween decorations while you wait. :)

Not a destination nor a spot to stop at for a football game (closed Sundays). I don't think there are any craft beers nor cocktails.

Just a burger and a bottle of Bud. :)

I had taken a half day off last Friday for camping over the weekend and happened to be in the area. I had to make one last stop...

Besides all of the Fast Food Carryout and Sit Down Dining I have listed in this thread I also have a short list of places along my drive to and from home I am going to have to stop at before a week from Friday, most likely as one big swoop (all three) on my way home...

    Booby's for a Steak Sandwich
    Booby's
    8161 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles

I had been there before based on a recommendation for the burger (Big C) but I have a tradition of trying the top item on the sign out front (Steak Sandwich). After all they must be pretty proud of it to give it top billing? :) Mixed reviews here but I have been having a hankering for steak sandwiches lately.

    Nick's for a Gyro
    Nick's Drive-In
    7216 N Harlem Ave, Chicago
"The Best Homemade Gyros in America"

That sign has been beckoning to me. :)

I do enjoy a good gyros from time to time. I do know they have mixed reviews here. I do regret not being able to try the one at...

    The Works
    2676 W Golf Rd, Glenview

I did stop at The Works once and ordered their signature sandwich which I regret.
For some reason, and even though The Works is better recommended, I am going to give Nick's a try.

Luke's for a Breaded Steak Sandwich
    Luke's on Harlem The Original
    3130 N Harlem Ave, Chicago

It has been way too long since I have had a Breaded Steak Sandwich. I have had dreams about...

    Ricobene's
    252 W 26th St, Chicago

... and mostly about them before they remodeled. That was a truly great sandwich not that their current one is necessary bad. Just seems like more of a production item now.

I have had plenty of Breaded Pork Tenderloin the last few months (mostly Korean Tonkatsu).

Traditionally I don't make it up to Glenview often and I am going to get the craving to visit these places out of my system. I will be coming up monthly with My Bride to satisfy my Beer Club Membership (free growler fill) at...

Looks like my sandwich crawl will be happening tomorrow (5-8) after work. I did take a look at Google Maps and they mentioned to could be a 10 to 30 minute drive to get to Booby's. I have never seen it be 30 minutes so I think I might arrive at 4:45 pm.

This is just the steak sandwich I needed. :)

Nicely broiled, thick enough, a lot of meat. Is was part of a combo with choice of 2 sides. I went with a cup of soup and baked potato.

The topping was a brush of their BBQ sauce (a common theme with their sandwiches). I added raw onion and should of gone with a brush of mayo.

I noticed that half the guests had also ordered the same. When ordering the manager mentioned it was their most popular item.

Nice clean restaurant, booths and tables. Big windows.

Man-o-man! Was that a juicy sandwich! As the gent was carving it the juice was as pouring down.

It can be seen the uncut cone was way bigger, irregularly shaped, and a loose pack as compared to the regular, mass produced cones.

    Very tender!

You could taste the beef in addition to the lamb. Spiced a little lighter than the others. The onion had a nice bite.

3 spits of which two were in use. I’ll bet the third is in use on weekends.

Asked about other locations and he said this is all there is.

Eager to come back for another!

Similar to before, the breading was soft and turned into a slurry with the sauce. You will still get a separate flavor from time to time.

The thin cut meat was very tender and the bread fresh. I added cheese and sweet peppers for a charge. Bread fresh and soft.

The sauce was simple and smooth. Complemented the meat well.

Charcoal Flame Grill in Morton Grove is also very good Gyros. I believe they have both a commercial American Gyros (found at most gyros places) and a homemade Greek Gyros at a little higher price point but worth it.

When researching Nick’s there were comparisons, Charcoal came out on top. Greektown was also mentioned.

My time in Glenview is over Friday and today I visited some places I was drooling over on my commute. I’ll put Charcoal on a list.

Just when you thought it was safe from Panthers when you go out (my contract in Glenview ended last week)... :)

As I have mentioned I am a member of the beer club at...

Macushla Brewing Co (on 5-14 (tomorrow) from 4:45 pm to 6:00 pm)
    1516 E Lake Ave, Glenview

... and I am planning monthly visits to satisfy my free growler.

Also My Bride has been only able to enjoy my visits as leftovers (not that she was complaining and always there has been plenty) and I will be showing her some of the restaurants I have really enjoyed...

    First off...

Plateia Mediterranean Kitchen (on 5-14 from 6:15 pm until ???)
9860 N Milwaukee Ave, Des Plaines

Once again, only the gold (I am not a fan of fish)...

    Saganaki
    Pastichio
    Prosciutto Gouda Crepe

... plus whatever My Bride decides to order.

As always anyone is welcome to join us. If you haven’t been they have some outstanding Greek food.

I can guarantee you will enjoy it. :)

Charcoal Flame's Greek Gyros is made with pork instead of lamb and beef and it is very tasty. Their American Gyros is also quite good. But for a change of pace try the Greek Gyros. It comes with the same condiments and sauce. But it is quite good by itself.

How this is being referred into a thread about Glenview is a little weird for me; but I go with the flow.
I have rode the #77 Belmont bus to buy sandwiches from Luke's On Harlem. I do not think I will do this again, since I have subsequently been informed about Nottoli & Son further west on Belmont (in Chicago, not Elmwood Park).
For me, I thought the breaded steak at Luke's on Harlem was only a fair competitor to both its own italian beef sandwich, and the bar-setting breaded steak at Ricobene's on W. 26th St.

Luke's for a Breaded Steak Sandwich
    Luke's on Harlem The Original

I have been here before but have been jonesing for this sandwich.

How this is being referred into a thread about Glenview is a little weird for me; but I go with the flow.

    Ja. I agree.

This was my last trip back from Glenview and just a food crawl to Oak Park.

    I will agree it isn’t Ricobene's.

The breading doesn’t stick and upon eating the leftovers it appeared the meat was tenderized. Too small too.

But it did scratch the itch. :) I thought the flavor was good as a whole.

Maybe someday I will try their beef but I have some great beef places near The Kingdom of Oak Park.

I’m not sure where to get a better breaded steak in the area???

What was interesting was the manager/owner was recommending, GNR...

    Mr D's Shish-Kabobs

That was a different preparation. She was skeptical until tasting it and fell in love.

    Great visit!

Of course Macushla was great too. :)

Macushla Brwg. is {revision: NOT} one of the breweries on the Illinois Craft Beer 2019 Passport roster.
I will{might} get to it sometime these next three months. I have to deduce how far I need to walk from the nearest train station on the Metra Milwaukee North Line. :?
Ohmigawd; I've just explored what happened to the original brewmaster (|founder) here. When I got here last year in July, had he died yet? :?:

I am planning my next dinner and beer outing in Glenview on the first Tuesday.

Maybe you can join us and maybe we can help you with transportation (although I know you are an independent sort :) ).

I will be posting my intent here.

... for a couple of beers, a few appetizers, a growler fill and then we will saunter over to...

    (maybe around 6)
The Food Court at Assi Plaza
    8901 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles

... Korean Chicken - DooRe HoDoo DooRe Chicken
... Korean Chinese - Lai Lai

I like these eggrolls. Always fresh with a loose pack bringing a better balance of wrapper to guts. I like the crispy wrapper.

I've missed that when I've been there -- I've said before that their food court has a dearth of small snacks versus whole meals. I'll have to try that, but I'm getting there less often these days with Joong Boo between my house and there.

After a trip and some recovery time I am back making a trip back up.

    Tuesday, July 23rd

At 4:45 I will be making my monthly visit to...

    Macushla Brewing Co.
    1516 E Lake Ave, Glenview

... and since the weather is so nice probably sit on their patio enjoying an snack and trying their wares.

After around 6 I am planning to have dinner at...

    Himalayan Restaurant
    8265 W Golf Rd, Niles

An outstanding buffet. As many of you already know it is primarily Indian cuisine with a few Nepalese dishes thrown in. As an added bonus there is an island dedicated to vegetarian dishes.

The food is always solid. The best? Nah, but very good.

As always anyone is welcome to join us.

I wouldn't bank on the buffet being available at 6pm. I'm fairly certain it's lunch only. Just a heads up.

A promising looking new Korean place Tang (8257 Golf) opened a couple doors east (*edit from west) in the same Fresh Farms/Four Flags plaza, should your mood change at the last second.
