Tell us more about the pimento dip!

I believe giardiniera was used as the pickle/pepper base and it tasted like there was some mustard in there. I'm no pimento expert, so i have no idea its authenticity, but it tasted great w/ some leftover tortilla chips

I got this last month and yes it's a giardiniera pimento cheese dip and it is delicious.

Add the Steak & Potato to the list of fantastic options at JT's.

Chargrilled skirt steak, caramelized onion, chimichurri, fries, truffle mayo, and manchego cheese all on a sesame seed roll. I was a smidge disappointed when it arrived at my table as I was expecting something bigger but this is one filling sandwich.

JT's is still killing it. This is the Beans and Greens, the veggie version of the Pork and Greens sandwich, has grilled rapini, white beans, caramelized onion, provolone cheese, and calabrian chili aioli, all on grilled Tuscan bread. If there's a better vegetarian sandwich in Chicago (RIP Big Kids and its Collard Melt), I'd like to know about it. But be warned, don't plan on a productive afternoon if you have it for lunch. The cheese and aioli (and maybe butter on the bread?) add up.

And for a not vegetarian but also delicious option, you can add bacon to it instead of the pork loin on the pork n greens.

I love JT's, everything I've had from them has been great.

Had the pork tenderloin sandwich. My wife has family in Indiana so I've had a few and this is the best by far. As if someone actually cared enough to do it right, unlike most I've had.

How do you eat your pork tenderloin sandwich, especially if the tenderloin exceeds the bun a lot?

I had a conversation with an Indianapolis food writer who cut the excess tenderloin and stacked it under the bread.

I had not had a tenderloin since learning this, but will give a shot next time.

I held up answering because you initially asked the question of Jazzfood, but now I'll chime in. The answer for us is, it depends on the size of the BPT.

One of our favorites is served at Christy’s Tasty Queen in Kansas City, KS. Their version includes a generous tenderloin, pounded out not too thin, but still overlapping a good sized bun. Lots of photos below in the linked Yelp page. Mrs. Roadhouse and I usually split the sandwich in half, then, as you describe, cut each half of the tenderloin itself again in half, then stack the two pieces on top of each other on each half of the bun.

We've had other BPTs that were pounded out so thin they not only overlapped the bun, but also the diner-style plate they were served on. These are generally my least favorite kind of BPT. IMO, they're pounded out purely for show, and lose quality in the process.

We had one at a little diner in a tiny town near Starved Rock where the tenderloin was paper thin, and easily more than a foot wide on all sides. It was served on a very small bun, about the size of a McDonald's bun, mostly for effect. We ended up asking for a second bun, then cutting the tenderloin in half, and folding each half, not just in half again, but in quarters. And it still overlapped the bun. We also had to ask for additional pickles, onions, lettuce and tomato for the second bun.

It was a wasted effort in the end because it just wasn't very good. The tenderloin was so thin, there was actually more breading than meat, rendering it dry and tasteless.

Christy's version is much thicker, allowing the meat to retain moistness, flavor, and textural integrity. FWIW, if anyone is thinking about trying Christy's next time they're in KC, keep in mind the BPT is the only thing on the menu worth ordering. By their own admission, everything else served comes straight off the back of the Sysco truck. Frozen fries, frozen hamburger patties, etc. A BPT and a drink is all you need there.

It actually didn't overhang that much, so smaller than other's I've encountered and my big mouth was able to handle it after unhinging my jaw.

Mrs. Jazzfood worked from home so lunch was on the menu. Went for the tenderloin but called an audible and opted for the pork roast w/broc rabe and provolone. One of the best sandwiches I've had. I usually eat 1/2 of most sandwiches, rarely an entire one but this didn't stand a chance. Interesting side note. The sesame bread, which was perfect, is from Tony's Fresh Mkt down the st.

Order it for delivery every couple months for a quick and affordable option. Everything I've had from there is excellent. Current favorite might be the beans n greens, even better with bacon added.
