Haidilao, the famous hot pot brand from China with over 400 locations worldwide and revenues > $1.5B just got its business license issued yesterday for 107 E Cermak (Cermak & Michigan). This is in the foot of a new high rise (hotel). Interior build out has been going on since September.

Not sure what path they'll take with dine-in restrictions but opening is probably going to be in January.

Tata's Tacos coming at 2826 N. Lincoln, Chicago, in the space that was Las Tequilas (and a Greek place before that).

Kapitan, A new Authentic Peranakan Cuisine (Similar to Malaysian cuisine) restaurant looks to have opened on 2142 N Clybourn Ave. From the menu it has many Malaysian items like Curry Laksa Soup and Nasi Lemak.

I was wondering what 'Peranakan Cuisine' is and looked it up:

Peranakan cuisine is a mix of Chinese ingredients and Malaysian/Indonesian spices and cooking methods. Importantly no two dishes are the same, as each creation is an interpretation based on the preferred flavours and ingredients of the chef.

A Cameroonian restaurant opened in Edgewater recently. I believe this is the 2nd Cameroonian in the city after The PowerHouse Restaurant in South Loop.

The NYTimes had a column this morning highlighting 26 restaurants the country has lost this year.

While in no particular order, I was pleased to see Blackbird had pride of place, being first on the list. I miss that place so much!

I see this is at the same location in Highwood (410 Sheridan Rd) as what was called the Curry Hut, one of two... or three? outposts by that name in the Chicago area. The old and new menus look similar but not identical.

I want to have the last post of this thread before it gets closed, except of course for any subsequent post from the moderators declaring it's closed. Therefore I am reporting the closing of this thread after a solid and successful one-year run, and I'm happy to report it is being re-concepted and re-opened soon as "Openings, Closings, Comings & Goings - 2021."
