Thanks for the clarification. I drive by it all the time... But the papering over looked new (new to me). I also tend[ed] to avoid it once the temperature started rising. I loved the food, but it really was best as cold weather comfort food. That (and the pandemic altering eating habits) probably explains why I didn't notice.

I’m worried Cafe Orchid on Addison may be permanently closed. They’ve been closed for “construction” for weeks, with no updates. Sitting on their patio sharing ezme and lentil fingers and BYO wine with friends is one of my favorite Chicago summer dining activities. I really hope they’re not gone for good.

I haven’t. According to Google and Yelp, their Park Ridge location has been closed for a year or so.

At some point in the last 1-2 months, Pit & Tap BBQ sports bar opened in the former Nick's space in the heart of downtown Wilmette. Appeared full with a lively atmosphere (open windows + outdoor seating) last night. No website menu to link, could be on Yelp!, but I haven't checked.

The Addison Street location of Cafe Orchid is part of a redevelopment proposal for a transit oriented project. The proposal is in the community comment stage, so actual construction is not imminent.
From Alderman Matt Martin's newsletter dated July 23:
    Meeting Recording:
    3601 N Ravenswood/1744 W Addison

Our office hosted a community meeting this week for residents to review a proposed rezoning and development at 3601 N Ravenswood/1744 W Addison.

Watch a recording of the meeting here.

The applicant is seeking a zoning change from C1-2/RS-3 to a B3-3 Transit-Oriented Development to demolish three occupied commercial units and two occupied residential units to build a 5-story, 75 foot-tall mixed-use building containing 52 rental units, including eight studios (renting at around $1,700), 32 1-bed/1-bath units ($2,200), and 14 2-bed/2-bath units ($3,200). The building would also include 7,000 square feet of commercial space. The developer is proposing to include 10 on-site affordable units. The building would remove three existing curb cuts and include nine parking spaces and 54 bike parking spaces.

View more details about the development and share your input at aldermanmartin.com/development.

A previous proposal for this site was withdrawn, so who knows what or when something will happen. In any case I doubt that Cafe Orchid is doing any long-term construction.

All the signage has been removed from the building which is a surprise since this location must have been one of the busiest Starbucks in all the suburbs. A passerby told me they closed this location because of the lack of a drive through.
I realize this closed a month ago but I only saw this now and this particular Starbucks holds a unique spot in my heart. You see, I played in a completely forgettable band in about 2000-2001 and we happened to play at this Starbucks around the time it first opened during those years. It was an unpaid gig and we were allowed a tiny corner of the store for, I forget, seven musicians? At the time, it was a big deal for us, so much exposure and at such a 'real' place! Several of my bandmates were still in high school, lol.

I don't think I ever returned there (or to any other Streets of Woodfield spot [Ok, *maybe* Shaw's once]) but it was a neat thing to remember driving past on Higgins or 355.

I don't know why the author Joe Ward didn't more explicitly mention the various suburban locations already open, near and far from the city. Just a vague Illinois reference from a corporate manager.
Already open in: Niles, Arlington Heights, Vernon Hills, Waukegan, Spring Grove

Wow, that's great news! It's been a long time since there was a Chilean restaurant in Chicago. I can't wait to get a bunch of empanadas chilenas --- and I'm glad to see I don't have to wait; looks like I can order online and pick them up in Glenview.
