I wonder how this may affect the new, but yet opened, location in Highwood.

The previously soon to open Kabob place in Highwood will not be opening. 1 rumor is that they could not hire people to man it. I happened to be walking by last weekend and saw the owner removing equipment and asked him about it. All he said was it was about relationships and he was too old to deal with it all. He is going to retire and ride his Harley. No idea what he meant by relationships.

Damn, that's some heavy shit he offered you there! Highwood could still use a kabob place anyway.

Great news! As I suspected based on the location it's an outgrowth of Mona Bella catering which was a ghost kitchen pickup option I got in 2020. The location was at Pratt/Ashland. Massive portions, but really good food too.

And as seems to be the case with most restaurants, the most up to date info is on their IG page.

A South Side chef is returning to his roots this summer, offering bratwursts and a rotating selection of dishes as he aims to give young cooks their start in the industry. Darryl Fuery, a chef for more than three decades, will open Haute Brats, 6239 S. Ashland Ave., in the next few weeks, with a grand opening planned for August.

I was driving down Irving Park yesterday and saw a sign for Harold's Chicken and Ribs (sic) now open at 1415 W. Irving Park. After initial excitement, a cursory internet search was disappointing as I don't believe it is part of the Harold's Chicken Shack empire, but perhaps a sketchy knockoff. I'll withhold judgement, but don't particularly want to patronize a business trying to confuse customers using a similar name (eg. McDowell's).

I was driving down Golf Road and noticed the former Valli Produce @ 450 E Golf Rd in Arlington Heights is now called Value Fresh Market. This looks to be a new grocery store and not owned by Valli any longer.
A long-standing grocery store in Arlington Heights is under new ownership, which promises to maintain the store's strong business while upgrading a few departments.

Now called Value Fresh Market, the store operated as the flagship Valli Produce at 450 E. Golf Road since 1989.

Valli still operates five locations in Hoffman Estates, Glendale Heights, Evanston, Rockford and Loves Park.

Block Club reports that a magic-themed gelato shop is coming to Lincoln Square.
The shop is set to open in March at 4819 N. Western Ave. with an array of unique flavors from Bliznick’s brand, Sideshow Gelato. Customers will be treated to performances by the staff while they enjoy their Italian desert, Bliznick said. It’ll be entertaining for customers, and aspiring magicians, jugglers and acrobats will have a space to hone their craft between doling out scoops of gelato, he said.

“I would prefer to provide a safe venue where they can do this and we have a mentor on staff that can work with them and help them hone their act and hone their skills,” Bliznick said.

The shop will have a stage area with seating for 50, Bliznick said, and it will have a museum of curios inspired by and modeled after the sideshow exhibits once found in traveling circuses. Plans for the store were first reported by the Sun-Times’ Mitch Dudek.

Some of his flavors sound a bit weird. The location is a bit south of Rainbow Thai, which is at 4825 N. Western.

This is the former home of PF Chang's in the ground floor of the Hilton Garden Inn.

And even better after the 1% tax was passed the owners of the Old Orchard Mall decided they are selling the American Mall portfolio of assets including Old Orchard. What a freakin scam and infuriating corruption by local politicians in Skokie to allow such a tax scam to be approved!
