We are helping pack up my son’s apartment in Zion on Saturday and since the whole family is in town, hoped to have a nice dinner somewhere up that way. We haven’t found much there over the years, but thought maybe you guys would have some ideas. Hidden gem in the vicinity or Zion/Wadsworth/Waukegan? Supper club or similar just over the border? Trying to avoid chains!

    Thanks much!

So old the ‘Colony House’ in Trevor Wisconsin doesn’t even have a web page, Facebook, yes.
Old fashion ‘Supper Club’ still serving Prime Rib cut off the roast!
Order the 20oz and you will eat for a week!!
    Ask me how I know?
Biggest cut I have ever had.
Some friends had their yearly party there every year and we got invited, all expenses.
Only place I will go in this area for old time ‘Supper Club’!

Are all of these good? How recent is the info?

The Village Inn is quite good. It's small, though, and not sure about crowds.
    Gerhard's is also good.
For a little fancier, the Stella Hotel in Kenosha or Hob Nob.

Wilmot Stage Stop is great fun, especially if you like a side of history with your meal. Oldest dining establishment in Wisconsin -- great steaks and all the WI classics (i.e., plenty of brandy and dairy). Then head upstairs to the 2nd and 3rd floors, which have been turned into museums.

I've been to Corner House on the Lake a few months ago, was wonderful. Just as I remembered. Prime rib the way to go.

At The Shanty this Tuesday for oyster special night with niece and nephew who live out that way. A Huge place, crowded, ok service, upscale(ish) bar type food with an emphasis on seafood. My lamb burger was good, med-rare and tasty, bun a shade dry. Ellen's Walleye fine and the unadorned oyster were good, some of the others over-contrived. My nephew from California, he and his wife are staying over for T-Day week, mentioned some of the shrimp in his shrimp cocktail had pockets of ice from not being fully defrosted before service.

6 of us had a fairly large meal for $300, I'd go back but more for the company of family than drive an hour to eat.
    Hold my beer . . .

Wilmot Stage Stop: Good to know about the museum. If thinking about going there, check the menu online. It's pretty limited, mainly steaks, and is a bit pricey for the area out there. And reservations a must as lines get long.

A couple good, and far more casual, places in the area, but a ways from Zion: Joey's West in Franksville, the town named for Frank's sauerkraut, and KC's Cabin west of Antioch.

Wellllll, we decided on Village SC because it was closest and it had been a long day. We called for a reservation luckily, because it was hopping on there, though tables seemed to turn quickly.

Waitress raved about the specials so I took a chance on scallops with a bacon cream sauce. They were bad, EXTREMELY fishy tasting. Special side was roasted acorn squash, also not very good, just dry. Should’ve ordered the meat.

But both my boys ordered prime rib and neither was especially thrilled with them either. My daughter had a small filet and it was dry. Entrees came with salad and soup, one soup tasted direct from a can, the turkey soup was tasty if not very turkey-flavored. Salad dressing creamy garlic lacked that special Greek diner flavor and had icky grape tomatoes but lettuce was crispy and fresh tasting.

Overall a fail, I’ll take the blame for ordering the wrong food option but the place was super busy so maybe my expectations were too high. YMMV
