Raising Cane's has applied to build a dual-drive-through restaurant at Rand and Central in Mount Prospect, the former site of Century Tile.

    It's a godawful place for a drive-through: that's a hazardous, messy corner.

Odd coincidence: Like Cane's in Gurnee, it's very near a Menards. Hope that unlike Gurnee, there aren't insane traffic tieups for the first month.

Oh, no. That is right by my Mom's house.

at dailyherald.com, Steve Zalusky wrote:Raising Cane's wants to bring its chicken fingers and special sauce to Mount Prospect.

But that's raising concerns among some residents who worry the fast-food restaurant would cause more traffic woes at a frequently clogged intersection.

Mount Prospect's planning and zoning commission last week recommended the village board grant a conditional use permit for a Raising Cane's with a drive-through at 915 E. Rand Road.

The existing Century Tile building there would be demolished to make way for a 3,661-square-foot restaurant accommodating 44 indoor seats and 50 seats on the patio. It would be expected to open in September 2024.

Residents have raised concerns about the location, which is bounded by Rand, Central and Mount Prospect roads, as well as Albert Street.

The intersection often is plagued by prolonged wait times and long queues of vehicles, residents say.

Drivers would access the restaurant through a right-in, right-out entrance at Rand Road and an entrance from Albert Street. Bowing to neighborhood concerns, right turns onto Albert would be prohibited.

However, resident Steven Polit said drivers from streets other than Rand Road would face some challenges.

"The only way that you can get to the restaurant from the south, from the east or from the west is to enter the site through Albert Street," he said, adding that drivers leaving the site to go north or east also would likely take Albert.

Rory Fancler, a planner with the traffic engineering firm hired by Raising Cane's, said many of the residents' concerns are due to existing conditions. Significant improvements are planned for the intersection, including additional turn lanes and signal modifications to improve traffic flow, she added.

I'm compelled to chime in again, but WTF?? This is a fast food place that sells one item? Who thought this was a good idea? And who is buying these? I somewhat get Chick-fil-a, it's a quality product with some product diversity, but an all-tenders, all-the-time concept genuinely boggles my mind. I'm clearly in the minority but seriously, what a bizarre idea.

I watched a YouTube video about them a few weeks ago. Pretty interesting story. He came up with the idea as a project for a business class in college, professor gave him a low grade and told him it would never work. Wanted to prove the professor wrong so he went to several banks for business loans and got turned down by all of them for the same reason. Then went out to the west coast to work some high risk/high pay jobs until he had saved enough to self-finance his first restaurant. Now he's a multi-millionaire all due to a business plan everyone told him would never work.

Cane's founder did an in-depth interview last year on one of NPR's financial shows ("Planet Money" or "How I Built This", don't remember exactly which). He said his original target market was fellow college students looking for a quick, inexpensive late night meal; either as an after bar snack, or to get them through late night studies.

Like others have stated, his success remains a mystery to me. He's serving the least desirable part of the least desirable part of a chicken, and people are gobbling it up. Tried it once and was deeply unimpressed. I'll give it another try when they start serving thighs. Not likely to happen, though.
