It's been repainted (bright purple) and new signage says "La Chabela", their facebook page has graphics that say "Chabela's" and it looks like it's a rebranding of Nuevo Tipico -- same website. They claim it features food of Puebla and Mexico City DF. Website photos show a trompo for Al Pastor, so I'll have to try it.

That Facebook page is gone and they have a new Facebook page under the name La Chabela. They're posting there regularly, but there was a recent post saying that they're not serving alcohol at the moment.

We attended a Friends and Family for Smoque Steak. I was a little leery of Emperors new clothes but I liked the end product quite a bit. Perfect full coverage med-rare, chew evocative of dry-age meat. Service smooth and professional, cool interior, good attention to detail. No serrations on the steak knife, sidecar of sea salt, well thought out sides and appetizers.

Either I or, I am sure, someone else, will start a thread when Smoque Steak opens.

A liquor license was applied for "Comfort African Cuisine" in Lakeview East. Taking over the former Hashi Sushi on Broadway just north of Diversey. Looks like it'll be 2 floors and my guess from a light amount of looking is that it could be Nigerian cuisine.

When widely acclaimed Smoque BBQ broke the news about Smoque Steak in April 2022, what immediately became one of the most anticipated new restaurants in Chicago was scheduled to open six months later.
A full year later, carnivorous fans still wait for what owner Barry Sorkin described as a different kind of steakhouse in the Avondale neighborhood.
“It’s an idea we came up with pre-pandemic,” Sorkin said recently. “We developed what we think is a different and better way of making a steak.”
My early taste test revealed remarkably tender meat, cooked perfectly medium-rare, within a beautifully seared crust, indeed infused with smoke flavor.
So when will Smoque Steak open?

Smoque Steak is at 3310. Wherewithall is at 3470. The sewer line that collapsed was from the restaurant to the main, not the main itself. The building for Smoque Steak is converted from a single-story industrial building to stores and also houses Tag Outlet. That kind of conversion almost certainly replacing all utility connections.

Two Sundays in a row, I noticed no cars in front of Harvest Fresh in Arlington Heights. So I looked it up, and it has closed. Too bad. Nice little international store that often carried things I couldn't find elsewhere. But with the huge Tony's just a few blocks away, I guess it just couldn't compete.
