    Opening July 8th.

I am friends with the family involved with starting this place up, great folks. And in an historic area, as far as it being my old stomping grounds. Downtown Skokie has always been magic to me.

Planning to get down there to check it out!

No, sir, we lived over a mile east in the K streets, but every weekend was right down there. Dick Longtin's Sports Huddle, Wolke & Schack, (I wouldn't know about) Schwartz's Corset Shop, Bill's Shoes, Dennis', Ben Franklin's 5 & 10, Pan-Inn and Country Cousin's to eat. Oh, and Ridley's when my dad had to pick up a sixer of Meister Brau to go.

The revitalization of Skokie's Downtown over the decades has been frought with delays, inactivity and downright bad decisions, but it kinda sorta is a destination now, and I'll be happy to give them business.

Worth nothing: they have unusual Saturday hours (9 p.m.-11:45 p.m., yes both p.m., you read that right), presumably because the owners observe Shabbat.

Yeah, the new Main Pizza Chalavi (formerly Gulliver's) on Howard was rocking this past Saturday night around 10:45, presumably for that reason.

I don't think it's presumably when the restaurant is explicitly Kosher according to their website.

Two updates at Randhurst Village in Mount Prospect:
    1) Steak and Shake had been carryout-only during the pandemic, but all signs are now gone and it's completely dark.

    2) The former site of Naf Naf on the west edge of the center is now Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken, featuring chicken sandwiches, wings, etc. The menu looks a little schizophrenic, with Nashville and Korean chicken. Hope to try it soon (but Surf's Up keeps drawing my attention -- really good Po' Boys).

Glenview village trustees have approved a loan to develop a downtown property referred to as a “significant eyesore” into a restaurant featuring a celebrity chef from Chicago.

At a July 6 village board meeting, Glenview approved a $550,000 loan to assist in plans to develop the parcel at the corner of Waukegan Road and Grove Street, a project estimated to cost a total of $2.5 million for the land purchase and restaurant build out.

A new restaurant called “The Filling Station” will be developed by Glenview resident and restaurateur Nick Philippas, managing partner of North Branch Pizza and Burger Company and the Joe Donut cafe and restaurant chain.

The Filling Station will feature celebrity pastry chef and partner Kyleen Atonson of Chicago’s Lincoln Square. Atonson was the champion winner of Food Network’s “Chopped Sweets: Winter Celebration” culinary competition television show in 2019.

Renga Tei is now open! The food tasted about the same which for my family is a good thing. Prices went up a little but that was to be expected. Menu for right now is smaller but will be expanding in the next few weeks. As we finished our dinner the new owner
came over and introduced himself. He was gracious and humble which was refreshing.

    * Happy Lamb Hot Pot - 2707 N Clark St in Lincoln Park. Signs are up for it finally and they applied for a liquor license

    * Kurimu - 2668 N Halsted St in Lincoln Park. Another location of the small local Asian ice cream chain.

    * Sinya Mediterranean - 3725 W Chicago Ave in Humboldt Park. This is the 2nd location of the same restaurant in Roscoe Village.

    * Dimo's Pizza - 4647 N Lincoln Ave in Lincoln Square. Another location of the small chain in town. They applied for a liquor license recently

    * Pearl Club - 495 N Milwaukee Ave in River West. Not much info here other than Boka Group is behind this.

    * Bistro Monandock - 53 W Jackson Blvd in The Loop. A French bistro.

    * Te'amo Boba Bar - 835 N Michigan Ave in Gold Coast/Streeterville, in Water Tower Place. Another location of the small local bubble tea/Asian dessert chain.

    * 2AM Izakaya - 2218 N Lincoln Ave in Lincoln Park. A Japanese restaurant that may stay open late (what does this mean in the COVID era?). Replaced Xi'an Dynasty (RIP)

    * Gong Cha - 2233 N Lincoln Ave in Lincoln Park. A location of the international bubble tea chain

    * Taco Maya - 3053 N Ashland Ave in Lakeview. A location of the small local chain of Mexican eateries.

    * Pizzeria Uno - 1970 W Diversey Pkwy in North Center.

    * Boulevard Bistro - 2753 N Western Ave on the Logan Square/Lincoln Park border. Not much is known about this other than it replaces Cornerstone Cafe.

    * PTCI Express - 2136 W North Ave in Wicker Park. Another location of the health food cafe (sandwiches, smoothies, etc) that exists in Austin (Chicago, not TX).

    * Jordyn's Soul Cafe - 1160 W Grand Ave in West Town. Replaces Crazy Bird Chicken. Will be a soul food cafe that also has jerk chicken, some seafood, pasta, etc. I wonder if the same people behind Jordyn's Hibachi & Pizzeria that opened recently in Bronzeville are behind this. My money is on yes..

    * Magnifico Coffee - 3063 N Milwaukee Ave in Avondale. A Colombian coffee shop/cafe.

    * Fulla Bologna - 2101 W Touhy in Rogers Park. Another location of the suburban Italian deli.

    These are all open now.

    * Desert Hawk - 2049 W Division St in Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village. Not much is known about this other than those behind it are behind some bars/tavern/etc in Los Angeles/West Hollywood. This replaces Pub Royale (RIP)

    * Kilwins - 737 N Dearborn in River North. Ice cream..

    * Oro Chocolate Cafe - 1553 N Milwaukee Ave in Wicker Park. The company is from Nicaragua with a founder from Chicago who operates hostels and other things down there.

    * The Void - 2937 N Milwaukee Ave in Avondale. Not sure what this is, but one of the guys behind this is the head chef of Wyler Road.

    Still in the works apparently

    * Afternoon - On Wentworth Ave in Chinatown. Korean concept only in NYC that serves up mochi donuts, coffee, croffles (croissant waffles), Korean food (i.e. breakfast sandwiches), etc. Will be very close (maybe next door) to the upcoming Paris Baguette.

    * Paris Baguette - On Wentworth Ave in Chinatown. Big Korean chain of bakeries. They're opening up a few other locations downtown too soon. Next to or very close to the upcoming Afternoon (see above).

Going to be a Te'Amo. In the works still

Add Land & Lake Andersonville to the list of former restaurants at 5420 N. Clark. They announced their closure via email and on their website.

After more than 2 years operating on Clark St. the time has come for Land & Lake Andersonville to close our doors. Our final service will be Sunday, July 23rd.
We have loved being a part of your celebrations and visiting with you over bubbly brunch and happy hour on our beautiful outdoor patio. Most of all we have enjoyed having you as our neighbors; the Andersonville community is truly a special one.

We hope you’ll visit the other LM Restaurant Group restaurants when you choose to dine out. Especially Land & Lake Ravenswood, located a short distance away at 1970 W. Montrose at the corner of Montrose and Damen. Ajdin and his fabulous team will be moving to that location on July 25 and very much look forward to serving you there.

Our popular Burger and Brew nights in partnership with local breweries will continue at Land & Lake Ravenswood as well as our brunch specials and happy hour deals. Ajdin and the team hope to see you on the rooftop this Summer!

Thank you for dining with us, your support has meant so much.

This story is really something. Citing the Bulls and Blackhawks bad record as a reason too, despite the Bulls having literally the #1 attendance in the entire NBA last year at 20,527 average attendance per game and Blackhawks averaging over 17,000 a game last year. It's like they don't understand that there's a fairly new, trendy area right near U/C full of restaurants now and it's very popular.

I wish them well, but this guy seems a bit full of it with a lot of this.

“No one comes to the city from the suburbs anymore. Crime is out of control — gun violence, car jackings, you name it,” Aguirre said. “How can you take your family out to eat if you’re worried something is going to happen?”

Aguirre added that real estate taxes have cost the restaurant a lot — the building has been for sale for almost a year — and the cost of coming to the West Loop is not worth it for many customers.

“Everything is a money grab,” he said. “Speed cameras, red light tickets, valet parking — it all adds up. DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats have killed us. They were charging 30% for deliveries. What happened to the city capping it?”

The owner if this restaurant seems to not have any acceptance of his own failures.. Like upkeep and fixing the sign or lights before being fined. Maybe its a failure of his poor management skills (adjusting to the new market) and the gentrification of the area with much more competition in the area with newer more innovative restaurants.
