A recent exchange between LynnB and boudreaulicious about the curative powers of Ssyla’s ginseng Cornish hen soup got me wondering if there may be other secret go-tos with healing powers. Or maybe just what you want when you feel awful. We tried Ssyla’s soup and loved it. We feel some better so we’re happy to give it credit.

Since this is a new thread, just wanted to correct the spelling so it’s potentially searchable/findable:

Matzo Ball Soup from JB’s Deli pulled me through my first round of COVID. It was so comforting and restorative.

When I'm suffering from my nearly annual bronchial infection, Aranda Taqueria, one of our neighborhood's many Mexican joints, serves up a scalding hot bowl of Caldo de Pollo that serves as a suitable replacement for my late Jewish grandmother's chicken soup.

The blazing hot, flavorful broth comes with an abundance of chicken on the bone, onions, cilantro, dried chiles, limes, and a stack of tortillas. It's kinda like a Mexican version of Pho. It's never actually cured what ails me, but it brings me a fair piece toward feeling human again.

Tom Yum Soup from a local Thai place in Plainfield is my go to. We're frequent customers and I'll have them go with a 5 out of 5 level spice and it doesn't disappoint. Once in a blue moon I'll add chicken when I'm sick, but its the hot broth that does it for me.

The place is called Chai Thai but any good Thai place near you should suffice.

    Have Kleenex on hand.....
