    Chiu Quon Bakery, which opened its first location in 1986, has now opened its third location. It’s right in time for the Autumn Moon Festival. Find the usual assortment of dim sum and other Chinese baked goods. 2253 S. Wentworth Ave.

    slightly confused, seems like it's across the street from the current chinatown location?

    That is correct. It puzzled me as they were building it. Now that it is open, I am not sure if the old one will close or if they will literally have two locations so close together.

    Pork cookies from Chiu Quon Bakery- Uptown. New to me, delicious and addictive. Pork, sesame seeds, caramel.

    I'm a fan of Chiu Quon Bakery go to Argyle most often but also Chinatown. I eat breakfast there once or twice a month, chow fun with either fresh or dried shrimp, warm soft tofu and deep fried dough sticks for dunking. They also do a terrific egg tart and sesame ball. The ha gow, pot sticker and siu mai are tasty but I don't typically get those for some reason or other.

    Pork cookies


    I know these as "little chicken cookies" (雞仔餅) or sometimes they are called Phoenix cookies (siu feng cookies or xiaofeng cookies 小鳳餅) . There's some sort of legend associated with it about a cook making a snack out of some odds and ends that kind of ended up looking like little chickens.     There's a bakery near the south end of Chinatown that also does pork cookies.
    I'm also a fan of the curry-filled donuts you can find at Japanese places such as Mitsuwa's Hippo Bakery and the one just inside Assi Plaza in Niles. You wouldn't think that would work, but man it sure does. Someone selling those from a cart outside bars could make a mint.

    We ordered the fried sesame balls from Chiu Quon (Argyle location) for our wedding (along with a whole roasted pig from Sun Wah). Very affordable pricing (I believe $1 each). Similar to others - our order of 50 sesame balls was placed a week ahead of time and confirmed, but when my family member arrived to pick up on the day of the wedding, the sesame balls weren't ready. They were still being fried, so when they were ready 30 minutes later, they were hot and fresh. But fortunately we allowed plenty of time for both the pig and the sesame balls to arrive at the wedding venue, to account for the delay. Chiu Quon is cash only.

    Hadn't been to the Wentworth Ave location for quite awhile. Last night purchased a couple of Portuguese Egg Tarts, for the extra $0.10 per over the egg tarts, the quality of the Portuguese Egg Tarts in my opinion is so well worth the extra cost, simply amazing taste/texture!!
    I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

    Took a drive along the lake with the bride. One of the stops was Chiu Quon, Chinatown for a milk tea, sausage bun and Portuguese Egg Tarts. Not a ghost town but Chinatown was not exactly bustling. Chiu Quon's dining room closed off, plastic or plastic like screens up between staff and customers. Attention being paid to the new-normal. Cash only, where in the past Chiu Quon, Chinatown took credit cards. (Argyle never took, or takes, credit cards)

    I'm glad to have them back open, and my kids will be, too, but weird that they're now cash only when, if anything, a lot of places have gone the opposite direction, totally cash free.

    Chio Quon has a new location at 88 Market located just inside the grocery store. Serve yourself with a Barbie- or Hello Kitty-level cute tray with equally cute tongs, which are sanitized after each customer. You lift a bin door and a tray extends to ease your efforts to pick out individually wrapped BBQ buns or whatever you wish.

    Easy and free parking make this visit far more convenient than their other two locations.

    The parking lot in front will be restripped in the spring to make them wider. According to a management team member for 88, there will be 500-car indoor parking available sometime soon.

    Over the weekend Chiu Quon had Ginger Cream and Ube Dan Tat (egg tarts) in addition to the typical Hong Kong and Macau (Portuguese) styles. I hadn't seen these before.

    Tried Ginger cream and they have a lighter custard than the Hong Kong Dan Tat or Macau Po Tat and a mild ginger taste. Very nice. The Ube tarts are very purple. Those are next on the list to try.

    Venerable Chinatown pastry spot Chiu Quon Bakery permanently closed its outpost at massive Chinese grocer and food hall 88 Marketplace due to “unforeseen circumstances,” operators announced in late July on Facebook. The family-owned institution, heralded as the oldest in Chinatown, has drawn fans since 1986 to its original location on Wentworth Avenue.

    I hope another Chinese bakery opens there. Otherwise I will go to Park and Save on Canal St. for my BBQ buns.

    There was always something a little odd about the 88 Marketplace location. The last two times I was there, over a period of a couple of months, they were open but didn't have very much on the shelves. Just a handful of items.

    I stopped by the Wentworth location a couple weeks ago when there for a bboy competition at the Chinatown Summer Fair. I feel the Portuguese egg tarts are as good as ever. I had an egg tart virgin with me and made a convert.

    for the first time from Chiu Quon tried the siu mai yesterday. Har Gow was not ready yet but after the person in front of me ordered 10 orders of siu mai, I thought I better get in on it. Fantastic.

    I went to the one up north on Argyle, and I have to say the BBQ Pork Bun is just about the best thing you can stuff in your face for under two bucks.
