Best thing I've eaten under $4 lately:

Cheddar char burger at Little Island in Evanston. Pleasantly surprised to find it cooked right between medium-rare and medium without my asking. Merkts cheddar, fresh beef. I'll be back.

Yeah, haven't decided what to have for lunch today, but it doesn't matter now - this pic preemptively ruined it in comparison. Sorry in advance, Mr. G sub from JP Graziano, you can blame Ronnie for landing you in the "Worst Thing You've Eaten Lately" thread.

Just eat as many as possible and bring home some chocolates from Patrick Roger. Best chocolate I've ever had and believe me, I tried lots of them in Paris. This is the one we went to. In fact, if you take the metro (Odeon) it's staring at you as you come up onto the street. Beautiful shop.

108 Blvd. St. Germain 75006. I checked. It's open Tuesday thru Saturday so don't go today. I'll be looking for lots of posts from you while you're there.

We hustled about a mile and a half to make it here tonight and arrived at 7:25, just before they closed. We ate a few samples, immediately fell in love and loaded up on gifts to bring back for friends. Thanks, Jean, for the recommendation. :)

I was thinking all afternoon -- and even discussed it with Julie -- about how hard a dish like that must be to plate. It was sure as hell exquisite to eat . . . one of the finest seafood dishes I've ever had in my life (not just "lately").

OK - would someone please educate a person like me, with no professional background, and tell me why that's so hard to plate?

The langustines aren't struggling, they're long dead.
All you have to do line 'em up and is drop some caviar on them and maybe shape with the back of a spoon...

    What am I missing?

Is it because the caviar goes from large to small portions?

Chocolate salty balls from Phillip Foss' food truck today at lunch. They basically tasted like little cake balls, covered in chocolate and a pretty liberal sprinkling of sea salt. They really hit the sweet/salty combination bullseye.

I have two bests to report here, both from the provincial gallows of my new outpost in Old York.

    1. Oysters from the fish market at the Chelsea Market. 12 super-prime selections of west and east coast bottom dwellers, shucked by the fish guys and served in plastic boxes with ice. Can't remember which was which, but one set was briny and mineral, the other umami laden, butter bombs. Impeccably clean, immaculately fresh. And not bad at about 15 bucks for a dozen.

    2. Scallops with asparagus from Manhattan Szechuan stalwart (and mini chain) Wu Liang Ye. A bit expensive at 20 bucks but a generous serving of scallops and remarkably well cooked asparagus in a burgundy sauce redolent with searing and numbing spice, green onions and of course, oil oil oil.
