Original Rainbow Cone

Hi gang

Been awhile. Does anybody know of Rainbow Cone opening in Union Station? I just discovered this on Metromix. The published phone number
connects to a fax machine.

As with many entries, the RC entry on Metromix is very old, not very new. There was a Rainbo Cone outlet in Union Station. While I have never lived in the suburbs, I used to take the train for several reasons; a Friday meal of Rainbo Cone, Gold Coast Dogs and a Guiness from one of Chicago's finest beer girls was something to look forward to.

I suppose it could be coming back, but I doubt it.

As long as You brought this up what the hell flavor is "Palmer"?

That's actually called Palmer House and, IIRC, is a New York cherry vanilla.

There is now a Rainbow Cone outpost next to the Park Grill in Millenium Park; it's a small store on the south end of the restaurant area.

Not sure about hours, but figured I'd let people know there is another way to try the famous Rainbow Cone (now 80 years old!), besides at the upcoming taste & of course, down in beverly....

They also have a Rainbow Cone in Wausau. I live about 10 miles from there. So if you are on your way up North stop and visit.

As promised in the "openings and closings" thread, they're now open in the loop. .

The cones have received high praise in the Taste of Chicago thread, and I'll confirm that they're very good indeed. $2.79 for a small (pictured) which by loop standards is practically giving them away. For those not familiar, the rainbow is chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (walnut & cherry), pistachio, and orange sherbet.

Sharing a space with the Halsted Street Deli, which looks worth a try (I gather there are several loop locations).

Wow, that was quick. Do we know what their hours are? I might have to make a stop tonight...

11:00!!! I just called. The menus don't list hours but mention that the deli is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I guess they're hoping to grab some of the post-show folks from the Chicago Theater as well as the dinner crowd.

Actually, noticing the crowds in the loop at 8 and later every evening, I'm surprised that more places aren't staying open late. I noticed the other day that after Macy's closed at 8, it became more crowded at the Nordstrom Outlet, which keeps going till 9.

Has the Loop location closed? I went in the other day and found the spot previously occupied by ORC is now a Yogen Fruz.

Yes, I was devastated as well, and they confirmed it. I'm not even sure when the change occurred.

Didn't they share space with a Halsted St. Deli on State St - or did that never materialize?

Oops just realized you were talking about same location (thought you were referring to the Millennium Park spot which only lasted one or two seasons ... ).

Even though my parents still live in Beverly, I never get over to Rainbow Cone enough. My 90-year-old grandmother still craves them, we should go for a cone this summer.
