D'Amato's Bakery - Pepperoni!?!

Not certain to what degree this is newsworthy, but given the love that is frequently expressed here for D'Amato's pizza and the fact that they've done nothing but cheese and sausage for the 15 years I've been going (and, I suspect, much longer than that), I was a little taken aback when I popped in for cannoli this afternoon and saw the following:



They have, indeed, added pepperoni as a sheet pizza option. Apologies for the lack of a glamour shot, but we were already stuffed to the gills from lunch at May Street Market. In any case, pepperoni's not really my thing, but I suspect this will make somebody very happy.

I didn't know they only recently started serving it when I tried it about a week ago. I warmed it up before I ate it, and it was reallllly salty. Salt was about the only thing I could taste. That could have been the pecorino I sprinkled on it, but I don't really think so. I also tried a cheese slice which was very good.

D'Amatos also has, on the weekends only (according to one of the workers there), a pastry that is basically like a paczki, only with cannoli filling (both in a fried and baked version). I had one yesterday and it was outstanding.

I never liked cannoli until I had D'Amato's.

D'amato's is now serving sandwiches.

Wahey! It's like I barely recognize the place!

There were at least three more pizza versions than in previous years when we visited a couple of weeks ago. A couple of vegetarian options (one artichoke, one I didn't catch), some kind of supreme/deluxe with a bunch of meats, some small, round, individual pizzas... I was looking for the classic fix rather than all this newfangled craziness, but I'm certainly curious. Anybody tried any of the new offerings?

As for the classics, the sausage was awesome as usual

I am going to be ordering some full sheets for a party at home. Does anyone know the default slices-per-sheet? Trying to calculate how much to get given the number of people we will be hosting.

Personally, I would go with the guidance of the staff at D'Amato's on quantity.

We purchased a tray of their pizza in February. There were 16 slices, and I believe it was around $27? Mmm!!!

When I called to order, not at all surprisingly, they were super duper helpful, and gladly agreed to do 32 pieces per tray. And the price/quality ratio is really fantastic.

Is the D'Amato's in Schiller Park associated with the one in Chicago?

A recent change in our pandemic routine means we're passing by D'Amato's on Grand regularly. If were to stop in, what should I get? Trays of food? Bread? Ingredients? Never been!

I’ve only ordered sandwiches, but they are really good. The bread is great as expected. I usually upgrade my sandwich to their Focaccia bread.

We have been going to D'Amato's for years, but hadn't been in awhile. Drove down before last weekend's snowstorm to stock up for a few meals. Definitely do not miss their incredible pizza. And the bread is always great. Also - cannolis!!

Hi there. Others have mentioned the sheet pan pizza and I agree it’s very good. One of my favorite pizzas in Chicago when it’s heated up. My other must-order there is the arancini with red sauce: crisp breading around creamy rice, cheese, beef and green peas.

For sandwiches, Damatos is not bad but my favorite is Vinnie’s a little further west on Grand .
